Keep in mind this list includes Concorde "Expanding to the U-12 age group and the addition of 56 new member clubs will improve the overall environment at an earlier development stage and help clubs create a more positive step-by-step learning pathway for players," said U.S. Soccer Director of Scouting Tony Lepore. The Development Academy clubs reported a total financial commitment of over one million dollars amongst the 56 new clubs, in guaranteed player scholarships. Over 600 players will receive scholarships to contribute to their club, while over 400 players in the Academy will be able to play cost-free. “The commitment of the new U-12 clubs to provide opportunities and reduce barriers for players is tremendous,” said U.S. Development Academy Director Jared Micklos. “In total, the clubs have committed over $1 million to players in this age group. We believe that these efforts will allow players the opportunity to pursue the sport in quality club environments at a critical young age in their development pathway.” List of Under-12 New Academy Clubs starting in fall 2016: Georgia: AFC Lightning, Atlanta United FC, Lanier Soccer Association, North Atlanta Soccer Association, Southern Soccer Academy, United Futbol Academy other states and full story @ www.ussoccer.com/stories/2016/02/02/00/58/160201-academy-adds-56-clubs-at-under-12-division-for-2016-17-season

So, am I correct in assuming the tryouts for U12 DA will not be public, but rather by invite only? If so, has anyone heard when tryouts will be and/or if they've already taken place for fall 2016?

Clubs already sent their top players for the Atlanta United u12 tryout a couple of weeks ago. I would assume the regular tryouts will be in the summer

From what I gather, they will have some sort of formal tryout process end of the spring, but I think at least this year, they will rely heavy on GA United clubs. They had scrimmages a few weeks ago where the majority of the '04s from the alliance clubs attended. From that a handful of kids were selected to represent the Atlanta United u12 team and attend the MLS next generation Dallas cup in March.
But don't get me wrong, if your kid can play they will want them regardless of club affiliation.
