Disappointing... USA outplayed Sweden badly in that game. The wrong team is going through.

I'm sure she wanted to take it and that's what you want, and we all know the best in the world have missed big time PKs in big time moments.
You have to take care of business in regulation. I think I just saw a tweet that said US had never beaten sweden with Pia as the coach.

Yeah that's true but you gotta have someone else step up other then Press. She's never really shown me she's as great as people think between the WC and now here.
All the injuries added up against a physical team that knew their system. They are 0-2-2 against Pia as the Sweden coach.
Had Pugh and Rapinoe stayed / been able to finish they're going on to the next round.

Hope Solo calling out Sweden as a "bunch of cowards" haha I love her sass. More of the players should feel free to speak up more.

Wondering where zizou was. Move Pugh to the middle. Allow creativity.

In all fairness to Ellis, here are the team shot charts for today:

I'm having some drinks so forgive me but thinking about the US and the Olympics --- but why are we so dominant at individual sports compared to a sport like soccer.

Just curious if anyone puts any "credibility" behind the commentary that no team has won the Olympics the year after they won the World Cup?
I understand taper and recovery process etc. But there are a lot of players who retired or on maternity leave and lots of talented additions to the team. But there is also a lot to be said for the fact the Pia coached so many of our players previously.

I'm having some drinks so forgive me but thinking about the US and the Olympics --- but why are we so dominant at individual sports compared to a sport like soccer. USA will never be a soccer first nation because our federation is a puppet of businessmen whose main concern is themselves. Our youth game is structured to exclude large populations, like some country club. It has no connection to pro soccer. The result is a country of 300 million losing YNT games to Bahrain. I learned only recently that a couple US women's players were successfully playing in Europe, only to be given the ultimatum of moving to NWSL in order to play for their country.... equalizersoccer.com/2016/01/04/psg-terminates-contracts-for-horan-asllani/This will never be a soccer first nation without major structural changes. If you have a kid that is really good, find a way for them to play on another continent. Having said all that, the USMNT looked good in the Olympics. A new generation of players is arriving, and they're fantastic. They are no longer relying on crossing it to Abby. (The opposition is also getting better). The team got caught by a "bunker and counter" team and lost a game....

US was lucky to take it to penalties. Sweden was robbed of the winning goal in OT.
