You figure at this point its probably the end of hope. But given all she has done in the past, isn't this a bit excessive.... The van incident is much worse than calling a team cowards. Her comments were absolutely ridiculous and I think most people just blew it off as hope being hope. However, they do say given here history we felt it was the appropriate disciplinary action, so taking that into consideration I probably do agree with the length. www.espn.com/espnw/sports/article/17385530/hope-solo-suspended-six-months-us-soccerand if folks haven't seen her blog, it has some interesting facts about NWSL. hopesolo.com/blog/

It is worse than a suspension. They terminated her USWNT contract. But, and this is a big but, USSF are still going to pay her, at least for this year, to play in the NWSL.

So lets just say what if:
What if Hope says the exact same things after the Sweden game, but instead the US won in PKs, does she get suspended from the remainder of the tournament?

Absolutely not... because then she isn't a "sore loser". And mostly because it would never have gotten the media attention if it hadn't been for the upset loss as well.

Dempsey says this and NOTHING happens. This is just US Soccer scapegoating and trying to embarrass someone who doesn't follow their idiotic imagine. Complete disrespect for the greatest women's keeper in US history. Well I guess that money she's going to lose until WWC qualifies can help pay for some of the men's new training jerseys...
Too bad she loves the Us and Seattle loves her otherwise she'd probably go play in Europe where her on the field only matters.

Sorry but she has had more bites of the cherry than anyone and hasn't yet learned to keep her calm, she criticized her coach in 2007 World Cup for not picking her, she has been charged with assault, she has been charged with DUI in a US Soccer van and the list goes on. This is basically accumulation of offenses.

Hope Solo's biggest problem has always been her mouth and the fact that she never learned there are consequences for actions. Let's contrast two female players (because jumpjumpkeep has a point about Dempsey and the lack of outrage for his comments):
Hope - rarely if ever admits wrongdoing on her part and rarely if ever apologizes for those actions. Abby - immediately after her DUI, admits her mistake, apologizes for all she let down - moves on.
Same offenses - different actions following them. THAT's the difference in the maturity and class of players.
It's a pity - on the field, Hope is nothing short of brilliant - but she's not a true team player and will always be a liability to the US team if she's allowed to do this and not face consequences in the future. Pity this happened now and not when she was younger - she probably had a few more good years in her on the team - now this 6 month suspensioon at 35 years old probably means the end of her career. I hope and pray she and Lochte don't do some stupid reality series.

That was my take, suspension for words is silly, what are we 12.
They should have just cut her, is it not that simple? Just let her hang around then when the roster comes around for the next 6 months, guess what, shes not on it. Just like the other players that don't make the roster etc.

Just to play devil's advocate, we don't know what else she did post-Olympics behind closed doors. Several of her teammates came out publicly against her statements. It is possible her non-public reactions to that also contributed to her dismissal. Or perhaps she was asked to publicly clarify (soften) her statements about Sweden a few days later when she was no longer pissed, and refused to do so. We don't know.
Even so, it's a bit disingenuous to say she was dismissed over just words. Her actions (domestic violence and drunk driving) and her response to her actions was tarnishing the USWNT brand. The words were only part of the puzzle, and probably there were many things we never heard about at all.

Stupid pillow soft soccer federation... Suspended for being pissed and using WORDS. Sunil Gulati needs to GO!! See above, this isn't her first brush with controversy, she has had many indiscretions (Drunk driving anyone), and been suspended once before in 2008 if you remember. Put it another way would your boss let you get away with a hissy fit at work, I know mine wouldn't. Hope has had many chances and hasn't got the hint about actions and consequences so in this I am with US Soccer, cut your losses and break in a new keeper for next WC.

It is a bs suspension after a major tournament.
Suspend her for drunk driving before the WC.. Fine.
This is silly.

Yea, I'm sure more to the story. Its easy timing to do it also, with no major tournaments coming up.

This is a yellow card for persistent infringement. Maybe that makes more sense here :-)
