My son has only played one game out of six where heading was not allowed...refs aren't calling it. The one game was at a tournament where heading was allowed the rest of the weekend. My son saved a goal with a header last weekend.....how on earth do they expect kids who have been playing this way for years to stop? Anyone else with a younger player seeing this happening? I prefer them to head the ball than to get a knee or foot in the face on a high kick.
Edit....just saw the conversation in the shout box...so that answers my question. New question, are they going to do anything to fix it or be consistent?

Its all about the refs you get apparently, maybe just lazyness. Haven't seen it enforced at CF or NASATophat

Getting called at UFA-Norcross for sure. The big problem I see is playing teams that solely punt the ball --- it puts defenders in very awkward situations and gives the advantage to the offense. Our team likes to keep the ball on the surface, but corner kicks and crosses have been a challenge. Kids are adapting well, I'll give them credit, because they are doing everything they can possibly do to avoid headers. I think next year (at the younger ages) when they take punts away, it will help a lot --- which will bring in another entire dynamic, because if the team we played this weekend tried to build out of the back every possession, it would have been even uglier then it was.
Hence, why I'm not opposed the occasional punt, its an efficient play to get the pressure of your defense and play the ball often into space. Never should it be done all the time at younger ages, but sometimes its a must. Typically our keeper will just put the ball down at their feet an dribble out and play a diagonal ball if nothing else is there. But a weaker side trying to build out against a strong, technical, relentless side as no chance for success. (even with the proposed build out line) & at that point I'm not sure what your teaching the kids other than failure.

Problem is this rule came in half way through the ref certification season. Most refs get re-certified after Christmas and before the new season starts (This is when your badge is valid for). Once all refs have been through recert you will see this called more. Not defending the ref's who haven't kept up with the new LOTG though as I bet they have already implemented the Kick off change, will be interesting to see if these guys have read up on DOGSO and Red cards too.
