Interestingly was looking over the DA rules and regulations handbook over the weekend. ussoccer.app.box.com/s/ddh3x0fztgwufv8x1bc3dep1i97t0q5hIts a known fact that for U-13 to U-17/18 there is a 25% start rule. However, their is another statement that is not very well known, page 11, bullet a. a. Suggested Playing Time Recommendations for U-12 and U-13: At the U-12 age group, coaches are expected to play each player 50% of the minutes for every game. For the U-13 age group, players are expected to play a minimum of 50% of game minutes per month, as part of the individual player development plan.So the question is the following: - Is this just a loose recommendation?
- Use of the words "Expectation" makes it appear that this should be followed and is a 'rule'
- Or is this just random words in handbook, that hold no value or weight?
So far it does not appear that most are aware of this statement. And if its just a statement with no intent of it being followed why even include it?

Could it be an escape clause for coaches that screwed the pooch in picking a player that is truly not up to the caliber of the rest of the team?

I would assume most are not familiar with this recommendation given the u13 age group was new this year. I read it as a recommendation, but a recommendation that is expected to be followed.

Yep watched the 03 AtlUtd vs Concorde and saw so many AtlUtd on bench and those are the ones that were told to suit up. 13 years old and not even playing 25% of the games. Pretty good players.
Its always good to know how many will be rostered before tryouts. Some take 18, some 20 and some 20+

Some take 18, some 20 and some 20+ This where DA is making a big mistake, I understand the entire thing is catered to the top 1% but, there are many other quality players on the DA teams besides the top 5 to 6 players. For many reasons they are not currently as good as the top players, but in a few years, you can tell they have the soccer IQ thats needed to play quality fast soccer. These kids and even most top kids are not playing enough games. Basically playing one full game every other week is not enough!! Training is great and all, and its where everything is learned etc, but kids want to play and kids need to play. Sub rules at less than <16 in my opinion is ridiculous. If a coach wants to be a jack a** and sub every 3 minutes, then US soccer is sitting there, they can warn him/her and if he does it again, ban him. easy.

If this isn't happening at U12 and U13 then I would be really disappointed in the entire system.

U12 - kids look like they are getting equal playing time (from a far). As with anything, anyteam, coaches have favorites etc.
U13s - definitely not 50% of the minutes for the entire roster.

I was told the U12's had to--mandated by US Soccer and the coaches have to submit video and reports to back it up. Not sure about the rest of the ages

A friend of mine emailed US Soccer and heard back. Basically the u13 rule is expected to be followed with regards to playing time. I bet if you ask the local clubs they have no idea this rule is there. The response was simple, yes its a standard that is expected to be followed.

I doubt this is followed. This discussion has been posted before prior to u12 and U13 starting. DA has development in their name but looks like in name only. Parents need to do their research on whatever program their child participates in whether DA, ODP, ECNL, Select or Rec
