I was just curious to see what others spend on cleats for their kids?
Other questions would be:
How do you go about selecting cleats? Where do you get your cleats?

It depends on the age of the child. They younger the cheaper. $40-60 up to age 12,then look out. They will start with the $100+. My daughter now wears $300 cleats that barely make it a season.
When selecting a cleat, it is all about comfort. Have them try on brands in a store to see what feels better.
The stores do not cary a wide range. You can order online at various sites, soccer.com, World Soccer Shop, Soccer Pro, etc..
We no order directly from Nike.com, as that is the brand she likes. Plus, they have a good return policy when you have durability issues.

For U8 and under we usually spent $20-$25. For academy we spent around $60. Now that my kids' shoe sizes have stabilized and having one kid who has had some foot issues, I'm ok with spending around $120.
Now that we know which cleats tend to work best for my kids, we mostly order from soccer.com. Nike worked best for narrow feet.
One of my kids has been fitted at a running shoe store for track and cross country. While that wasn't for soccer cleats, it was helpful to know if more support was needed (Nike works well for that too).

I've outfitted my niece and nephew with boots for the last 5 years, and I've only bought them leather ones, calf skin. Not those plastic ones. The boys are still Academy ages so theirs are around $40-60, while my niece is U14 and plays Athena B and her foot has stopped growing so she's in Copas ($125) until she buys her own.

$ 35-50 for my academy player but $200+ for my select son . He refs and pays for half and he goes through about 2 pair a full year .

In addition to all the great advice already given, join the customer reward programs for some of the stores and sites like nike.com, addidas.com, footlocker.com, d***s.com etc. They tend to give rewards and discounts that can help to offset the costs of some purchases. I know we consistently try to use the 10%, 20%, etc discount cards we are lucky enough to get in the mail.

"Waaaay too much"!
... but nowhere near as much as some friends who pay $300 more than once a season. I've talked my son into "last year's top shoe" a few times, which saves some. It will be nice when the feet stop growing. Then it's time for some Copas.

About $200-250... I tell myself that it's the only expensive equipment cost for soccer, so it's worth it - buy something that won't hinder his/her game.
