For sure look at the coaches not matter the draw of club. kids are 13 and 14. still lots of development to do. Look at the added stress at AtlUtd. Could make or break a player at 14 years old. Tough choices.

There are other considerations that come in to play with Atlanta United irrespective of who the coach of the team is. It is really not an apple to apple comparison. You have the $2,000 savings, the trainers, sports performance coach, the facilities, and access to the first team.

Access to first team is not going to develop the player. Saving $2000 is a perk but not about development. trainers (you have trainers if you have insurance), sports performance coach you can hire elsewhere as well. Again, the facilities are not going to develop the player. What you listed are all perks (for you or the player?)
Coach is the bottom line.

Under that rationale, coaching is a perk too because you can hire private coaching to work with your player.

I can definitely agree that Coach is everything for the player/team! Even the conditions or the extra help, better facilities etc. doesn't have as much impact as the Coach. Eventually these gifted boys will play at big clubs with the same kind of training facilities. It will absolutely make or break a player based on the Coach's relationship with the players. The Coach is the foundation of the team and based on his/her strategy for practice/games and personal relationship with the player dictates whether or not the players have respect for their Coaches. If they do have respect for the Coaches then you will get the BEST out of all your players! They will go to battle and know they have a Coach that has them prepared to win. At this level and above this is what separates teams from greatness. Can the Coach inspire and format the best possible play for the players he has? Even if he does and the players don't have that bond with the Coach then the drive will not be there whether your at ATL United or at Concorde. Look at the what Coach Conte has done for Chelsea. Complete 180 from last year.

mightydawg.. not really. Coaching is not a perk. If you are in DA you cant really go hire a coach. Maybe a non DA coach but you would have to have permission. Plus, if you hire a coach chances are you made the wrong choice based off the other perks.
The logic is that you want to find the best coach who you feel will develop your player. All the other stuff that goes with it is a bonus. Some good coaches might have the nice fields or even is a personal trainer as well.
But making the choice because of a nice facility or has personal trainers is I think not a good idea. The $2k fee is a nice savings but you can always work out a deal with other clubs as well. I know quite a few people who haven't paid registration fees in the past three years.
Dont get me wrong. Its nice to be able to play for AtlUTD. But all that comes with lots of pressure. If you are 15+ I get it. You should be there. But if your players is 11, 12, 13, 14 and you have a good coach now....it would be a hard choice to really leave if your player is developing. 90% of those players will be let go over the next 3 years. In the next 5, will just be a hand full of GA players

I think the added pressure comments are fair. I also think money is a factor not to be dismissed (everyone in club soccer isn't the fifty percent of people in club soccer who will pay any amount). And not everyone wants a free ride that the rest of the team resents, even if it is offered.
I also know AU has players that are miserable, but won't leave unless they get cut, because of the prestige. One of the best youth midfielders I know is stuck playing defense at AU simply because of his size. His coach is definitely not getting the best out of the team, endlessly skipping the midfield because the coach can't train tactics worth a darn.
Hopefully Tata will bring in some new academy coaches and drain the swamp.

My comment about coaching was tongue in cheek to point out the dismissive nature of the "perks". My overall point is that it is difficult to compare an all inclusive, professional academy team with a club team. The all inclusive, professional academy team has many built in advantages that clubs simply cannot offer.
He has been amazing that some of the other Atlanta area DA programs have been equal to, if not better than, the Atlanta United team. It also points out a problem in soccer development. Taking the best 11 individual players you can find does not make for the best team or the best developmental environment. A player's natural position needs to be considered.
It is also difficult to know whether you have the best coach or not. Some coaches work better with some kids and other coaches work better with other kids. Some coaches are great as they build their reputation but then fail to stay up to date. Some coaches are great coaches but get distracted by other things going on in life.
