Would be interested to know as well? Did it appear as if that Atlanta United knew some of the kids already and had them split accordingly? How many fields were going at once? Were coaches watching the multiple fields equally? What I've notice at the past at many of these is the top players are identified and placed on a separate field and that is where most of the focus remains.

This is the best kept secret currently at AU :-) From what I understand all groups other than the 2004s have been contacted with a time/place. The problem is they are trying to figure out who stays and who goes. AU has been having an ongoing ID Camp by having boys from all over come in and work with their current group of boys. They are branching out as far north as Virginia/Carolinas and west as Mississippi trying to attract some of the best players. I know of two families who have agreed to relocate so their boys can play with AU. TA is in control now and he's opened up the pool to the Southeast. Some are saying if their moves work they might actually not even have an ID camp or "tryout"

wow! I knew something was up. Tony is in the spotlight so I can imagine he will go to any lengths to make sure that Academy program is off the chain next year. Good for Tony.

So at first I was reluctant to share this but then again, that's the whole point of the forum right. I figure by now many of you may have heard by word of mouth anyway. So here goes...
Yesterday, the parents of the 2004s at AU were invited out to officially tour the AU Training facility and to have a team/parents meeting. TA himself lead things. As I stated earlier, AU has been inviting boys in to train with the current team over the last couple of months, trying to see how they compare to the current 2004s. The meeting was very informative and gave a very clear insight into what TA is thinking and his plans going forward. Here are some of the highlights from that meeting:
- No tryouts for the 2004 boys, between the current boys and those scouted there is no need to have a tryout. - If all goes well, no more tryouts or ID camps for all ages, boys would be identified via the AU scout network. - The current 2004s have the next 10 days to prove themselves, then starting the week of the 22nd, boys will have a 1 on 1 meeting with TA himself to determine their "future" with the club(think NFL cut day) - The 2003(current U13s) team is going to be blown up and retooled. - AU is either collaborating or moving a USL team to their training facility and the U16+ boys will be pushed to play within that model to get them ready for the top team. - Ultimate goal is to remove the DA tag and just have the European model where you are on the U1x team and are not constrained by the DA rules. You would still play DA but also other highly competitive teams like MLS academies, etc. - Also the current 2005s on the U12 team will not be moving up with the 2004s, but instead will stay with the new 2005(U13 team) being created for this upcoming fall.
TA was very honest as he laid things out. That's the nature of this business so personally I wasn't surprised. I was wondering how it would all go down and now we know. Obviously you can imagine there was a collective gasp amongst the group of parents. Made for a very interesting ride home.
Okay that's all I can remember for now, should have taken notes. If I remember more I will definitely share.

Sounds like something similar to Toronto FC, which does not participate in the DA, but only some of the DA showcases. I guess that also means the would cut ties with the Battery which would allow kids to remain closer to home and the training ground.
