Today two of the powerhouse clubs played across multiple age groups (Atlanta United vs. Concorde Fire)... Some have tagged this El Classico!
I was able to watch two of the games before I had to leave: one of the U12 games (6-3) AU and the U14 game (7-0) AU. Does anyone else know the scores of the remaining games? Thanks? For those who watched, what are your thoughts on the game(es) you watched?
U12 A : 6-3 AU winner U12 B : ? U13 : ? U14 : 7-0 AU winner U15/16 : ? U17/18 : ?
Thanks
FG

Thanks for the info, it looks like AU will have to retool the current U13s, future U15s.

I'm pleasantly surprised that Concorde held AU scoreless for an hour in the U18 game, even if they did lose 3-0. AU's U18s are ranked #1 in the nation and nearly half the kids playing for Concorde were callups from their RPL team. Says a lot about the depth of talent in this city.
As for the 03's, I know AU is bringing in multiple kids from out of state and I'm sure they'll pull in some new kids from in state as well. Plus, their current squad has four kids who have already been to national team camps, which is probably better than winning games for their purposes.

Call ups? Does that mean a bunch of 18s quit in the spring to play high school etc? Or DPs etc?

Call ups? Does that mean a bunch of 18s quit in the spring to play high school etc? Or DPs etc? They lost several of their key players to high school, they've been using a lot of DP's and have also brought in several new players full time, even a couple of out of state kids.

I was able to watch only the 12s play (since my son's friends played on both sides). What has always impressed me, whenever I have watched the 12s, is their passing game. They must have strung countless passes together for those goals. It's definitely not something you often see from teams at that age. And, while I think that sometimes you need to take the chance earlier with the shot, the passing from AU was absolutely beautiful at times. It was also an interesting display of "size doesn't matter." The AU players are smaller than the Concorde players, and at times you had small players defending against taller and bigger players. However, size did not daunt the players. AU has some very scrappy, little players. The other interesting piece was the subbing for AU. With the exception of the goalie, every player was subbed out. I'm not saying that Concorde didn't sub. I'm just saying that the rotation of the AU players was a little different. Several players played multiple positions or played on different sides of the field. The back line for AU was varied more than Concorde--even the CB position was played by multiple players. That was good to see. After all, some of these players are 12, and they can still benefit from learning more than one position on the field.
And, AU had some foibles, and I think got tired towards the end of the games, but I just wanted to add some positive for AU to the commentary...

I know a player that didnt get any play time on the 03's. Also, some 03's that started last year and played full games have only played maybe 25% this season. Grass isnt always greener on the other side.
Huge mistake by AtlUtd goalkeeper which was surprising. Pretty much cost them the game.
Yeah the AtlUtd 12's do move the ball very well. I just think some will have a real hard time on an 11v11 field. Its going to be very different next yer for sure. Always fun to watch

Yes, but compared to Ga United and Concorde, kids seem to be getting more equal playing time at the u13 age group.

Not for u13s on atlutd. A good number of kids well below 50% play time.

Probably because none of the coaches or directors bothered to read the rules and regulations that state at that age group it is expected kids play 50% of the minutes each month. I've also heard that this isn't a suggestion nor a recommendation, its an expectation. There is no standings, no finals, no end of season showcase -- games are basically scrimmages from week to week.

TA's philosophy is that at this age the boys need to work on possession and passing. He always says if the boys win or lose possession and passing are what he's looking for. The belief is if you keep possession, more often than not you will win. Plus as the boys age upwards, keeping a hold of the ball will be second nature.

Always fun to watch I don't think ATLUTD's current U12s will struggle any more than any of the other 6 current U12 team players in playing 11v11 next season. It's a learning curve that the lads will have to overcome. For those who are quick, they will have more time to receive and distribute the ball on a larger field. Studs from this year may become duds next year and vice versa. The key thing is they are still just 12 or 13 year old boys who are still learning so nothing is set in stone. Around 15 - 16 is when one can start to write the trajectory of these players in stone. That's when the hunger, drive, experience, training, girl problems etc. will all come together to create a more consistent player. Just my 2 cents... On another note, between my siblings and I, we have kids who are on 4 of the top clubs here in town. They are all on the DA teams and span the age groups of current U12s, U13s, U14s and U15/16s. If your kids are not necessarily the top well known players but are below the "studs" but definitely above average for their age group, which DA program would you send them to and why or why not? I'll try to sit back and list to your suggestions and comments...

Futsal Gawdess... Yeah they are very young in the big picture. it will be an up and down until what you said 15/16. Then everyone kind of becomes on same playing ground. Is for sure fun to watch the kids develop.
Answering your question... Very hard to say. I don't know who those coaches are and how they coach. I do know I have been very impressed with Ryan and Karl at Concorde. I heard the 04s(Ryan's) will have only 18 players. In the past he has kept very low numbers and is very fair with play time. I also can see that both the 03 and 04 teams have developed.
I cant say for the other DA programs.
