Always odd to me that new players have been told they have made some of these rosters before current players have been notified. I see this all the time at every level. Happens all the time on the girls side. New player shows up and is offered a spot and is told she made the team even before the top 5 returning players. Yes I hope they told those other players they didn't make the team. It would really suck to find out via a forum

From discussions and talks with the team as a whole, the boys have till this weekend to "show" why they belong and make their case. Guessing if you're on the bubble, this is your chance. However "cut day" begins On Monday in one on one sessions and will cover the first 3 days of next week. So by Wednesday of next week they should all know definitively where they stand with the club. I know some parents who feel their boys are on the bubble, have already started to reach out to their former clubs (if they have DA) to see about the possibility of securing a spot on next years team. I will say based on the rumors of new lads already being signed or coming on board the numbers don't look good. This is the ugly side of an MLS/pro youth academy.

No doubt, tough lessons to learn at some young ages.
This is where the "regular" non MLS clubs can really make things better to be honest. I expect an MLS academy to be this way, their goals are different than everyone else's.
The reality is every day is a tryout and you need to treat it as such. Hard to get 10 and 11 year old to understand that mentality though.
I'm a broken record on this topic, but this where all these clubs need to over communicate. Players should know in Dec where they stand on a team. Sometimes, this is obvious because of playing time, other times its not.

Its a tough time for sure. Wish all those well who get cut. Life is always a battle.
Agree this is where clubs can really help. Plus, you will have 6 other clubs wanting you to play for them. I love soccer in GA!.

Looks like ufa's u17 DA team will be invite only as expected. That team has already had a handful of invite only sessions.

To everyone who hears their kid is on the "bubble" .. that is code for you did not make the team , but stick around our club still wants you on the next lower team. Seriously, when have you ever heard "your on the bubble" and they make it?

Not that she was going for a top team, but I was told a couple years back (didn't ask the coach) that my daughter was "on the bubble". She ended up making the team. I'm sure it meant that some positions became available, but we took it!
Footy: I have pondered the same thing in the past, but never asked myself. Now that I think of it, it is what it is... go ahead and ask if it helps you plan tryouts for your kid.

Agreed,
I've always been very direct in asking where my kid stands as far as tryouts go. Although they are supposed to receive evaluations, I still reach out to coaches during the season to get a feel for development. I do this mostly to understand what we can work on, but also to know if we are in a good position for the following year or not. I have had my kids be "on the bubble" and make the team as well as shoe ins for the team because we're offered a position before tryouts even begin. You just never know the situation unless you ask. If they're not willing to tell you then you have your answer.

In my humble opinion, your primary job as the parent is to advocate for your child. Thankfully in this instance as opposed to an AU or the pro clubs around the world you can have a say since you pay. I'm saying be "that" parent but respectfully you should advocate for what's best for your child. Treat it the way you would a teacher/school and your child. Occasionally(maybe twice over a season) meeting with the coach should also help give you an idea as to where you child stands. At the very least meet with the coach at the end of the fall season to find out where they believe your child's development is. From there you can have your child work on fixing or improving his/her deficiencies. Then meet again before tryouts. That way you're not surprised at tryouts and can plan accordingly(new club, new coach, etc...)
