What do you know about tryouts and how this team is formed, coaches, etc. ? This would be for boys. IS the monetary commitment overwhelming? Is it worth it?

Thanks! But I was looking for some input from those that have done the DA team and could tell their thoughts on the program.

I personally like the program. At first I didnt like that we had limited games but now I kind of understand the logic. If you play more you have a higher chance of injury. The looks you get at showcases/ ID's are great. At the U15 age (03?) lots of College scouts.
All in all it has been a good experience. As for tryouts, they are the same grind as any other tryouts. Might have a better pool of players to tryout against.
Also depends on level of player. If you are top 10 then thats good. But if you feel you are bottom half of 18 then you may not get lots of play time.

I believe one of the mandates calls for missing practice in truly extreme situations. Since you're the top of the food chain at your club, you hardly if ever have practice or games cancelled. In addition to all that has been mentioned in regards to the DA program, it gives you a much better opportunity to get into the pool for National Team Camps. Depending on which club you're with, you get to see professional recordings of your games, which helps the player and can be used to send off for college recruitment purposes. You get better opportunities to ply your skills against other good players, so you have a better idea of how you're doing as a player when you're up against your peers. You know your entire year's schedule three months before the season kicks off. Finally, if you're a good enough player, it's another avenue to help with the pro route and access to national and international scouts especially with the pro teams like Atlanta United.
The draw backs are you don't get to play soccer anywhere else up to and including ODP and middle/high school. Now you have the option of sitting out and pursing ODP or school teams in the years when you're the younger age such as the U16/17 years if your not old/big enough to make the team. Finally, it does cost more than regular Academy/Select.
Hope that helps. FG

We are fortunate in Metro to have lots of options. Players and parents have to evaluate which program best fits. DA will no more likely get you recognized than others. There are lots of scouts at ODP, big showcases, tournaments, etc. Boys ODP actually practices at AU training facility in Marietta. AU coaches were at State Cup as I'm sure other college coaches were as well. Lest not forget colleges are also interested in ACT, SAT and GPA. Poor students who can play soccer don't play in college.
