Not so fast! There usually is more to the story when things like this get reported. Tourney organizers say that she was listed on the roster as Male. Whether you believe them or not is up to you but they say it had nothing to do with looks and everything to do with what looked like a team trying to place a boy on a girls roster.

Well, now isn't that interesting? An 8-year old playing U11 who is rostered as male but is (or identifies as) female.
Things are getting really complicated right now. There are two "right answers" when it comes to ex-boys who identify as girls playing sports as a girl. That isn't necessarily the case in this situation (though it is starting to look like it) but it is happening, and it is going to get messy, and fast.

It's been a while since I was a team manager but I don't remember anywhere on a roster that had you list the sex of the player - I believe it was assumed as I submitted a roster for U - insert whatever age - Girls. Is this a new thing?

I had the impression it was the official state roster, but every state is different anyway.
It STILL could have been a clerical error... a clerk at the club who saw the kid, assumed she was a boy, and put it in the state system incorrectly.
But the storm is still coming, even if this case is a legitimate mistake.

Yea, in georgia, the state rosters just assumes the gender of the team as it was entered. Our player cards don't even have a location that denotes gender. Our club used Bs and Gs in the Team name, but I could see if you didn't do that, how the player cards would contain zero gender information.
Soccer in college also assumes the gender of the team, but their is a location to change players from males to females etc, but the actual game cards printed from the system do no include gender.

When the players are entered into ADG, you have to put in a gender. This is done by the club's registrar.

Some who claim to have also been in the tournament also say the girl was playing for multiple teams from the same club. All of those teams were supposedly disqualified.
If that is true, it's odd the tournament or state association wouldn't have mentioned it earlier.

while the news would suggest otherwise for most stories, most people are good and well intentioned and most stories have differing perspectives depending on where you sit.

Crazy times, so much for good journalism, in the old days, espn/cbs would have done more homework before posting this TMZ story. Would be nice to see all the facts.

she was playing for multiple teams at same tournament? A guy named Doug Jolley posted on this link: www.omaha.com/news/metro/youth-soccer-team-disqualified-from-tournament-after-typo-lists-omaha/article_0d8f2e55-243c-5725-b8cf-29cb0e3013cc.htmland said this: There is no story changing on anyone's part. I was there as it unfolded. We played the boys team Saturday morning, 3 girls played in that game. They later played in the girl's game. Sunday morning we were told both teams were disqualified. The previous question of gender and the roster was resolved long before the discovery of the team hopping and cheating. The girls may or may not have been legally on the roster. You Can be listed on two official state rosters. You CANNOT violate rules specific to that tournament - 1 team only. A boys and girls team cheated, a boys and girls team got kicked out. No one changed their story, that was the truth as it happened Sunday morning. The media only got one story, therefore you and the rest of the nation take that as truth and react. Funny Mili never mentioned the boys team that she and her sister played on also was removed. Wonder why that is? Maybe because cheating doesn't get you fame and shout outs and support from famous people in the sport you love? Or maybe their coach didn't want to explain that he cheated so he fed the parents this as the excuse instead? Don't know that part for sure, but I was there, no story has changed, the nation is just slowly learning the rest. Media is no longer news reporting, it's just gossip.Totally unconfirmed, but I have to say his comments had the ring of truth.
