The quality of play was so poor, is this the best we can offer?
Watch the seven minute "highlight" video, it was much worse than this

I wasn't able to watch the NWSL Championship game, but those highlights were less entertaining than the 2nd half of CF/UFA U19 GDA match I happened to see yesterday.
Why would a league suffering poor attendance play their championship game at a neutral site??

Wow. Didn’t watch but those highlights are embarrassing.
The whiff in the 46th minute.
Was there even a completed pass shown in that highlight real.

About as good of highlights as USMNT vs. Trinidad and Tobago. Awful play.

We did watch. This match, indeed, all of the playoff matches in which Portland participated, were not representative of the overall NWSL season. Portland have become the Chuck Daily Detroit Pistons. About as cynical an approach to soccer as you would ever want to see. Raso is an embarrassment to the league. Horan is the same. Heath is trending. I do not understand how they survive without disqualification.
This comes down to refereeing, which is absolutely horrendous in NWSL. The Thorns, on cheap challenges as far as I am concerned, injured two Courage players (Smith and Hamilton, both critical to what NC do) within the first half of the first half. The Center refused to take charge of this match; she was obviously intimidated. The announcers even made a semi-joke of the fact that Portland decided to bulk up over the offseason so they could play like this after losing to Western New York in the Semifinals last year.
This type of game could have been avoided. We saw some pretty nice soccer in NWSL this season, but the playoffs did not fall into that category. Disappointing to say the least. By the way, have I mentioned that I hate playoffs in soccer? Get a Champions League competition going with the Mexican league. Or find another creative solution.

I totally agree with Zizou on this. Soccer "playoffs" should only exist in state/nation wide tournaments.
For a professional league of twenty teams, it's total nonsense. It undermines the work that a team does all season long. A couple injuries, or venue conflicts (just wait and see if Atlanta United has to play against NYCFC) and a mediocre team can win a tournament.

Still stunned at those highlights and some of those fouls. Maybe the team that plays the most 45 yard balls into the box actually wins the game!
