So what were folks opinions of the Disney boys showcase this year.
Maybe I'm becoming more negative in my old age, but now that is 3 games in 4 days, to me Disney has lost its magic.
Now that the kids are older, I don't really enjoy the showcase format for events like this. I hope it was still enjoyable for the younger ages, as that really was some fun times with some quality matches against teams you never face.
To me, its not worth the cost associated with the event.
Do coaches enjoy it at the older age groups? Weather wasn't great either, but thats outside their control. Paying to get into see you kid play is and should be crime. I could see maybe 5 bucks, or a minimal fee but $18 a day when you only play one game a day ain't right. Hotels are more expensive that time of year, even when compared to Thanksgiving.
Disney ain't what it used to be, thats for sure. First couple of disney jr tournaments were special, not the case anymore when you go down their every year for X years.

Positives: I did not mind the 3 games in 4 days format--Kids needed the rest. Our team played in a stadium and was able to play a team from another country and 2 other teams. The exposure to college coaches was incredible! We had more than 70 coaches at each of the first 2 games. Also we turned it into a family trip, not just soccer. Finally, we were able to watch old teammates and friends who have moved away.
Negative: Facility entry fee is criminal.

Agree on the 3 games/4 days format. Playing back to back to back just crushes players and lowers the overall level of play. Having all of the games at WWOS also made it a lot easier to get around to see everyone for us college coaches.

When we went down to watch my niece play in November, it was my spouse, 2 siblings, an uncle and his family and one grandparent. That's 9 at $18 per person, per day.

For showcases I can see the purpose of Disney. Good competition from teams around the country or world, chance to be seen by college coaches.
For non-showcase teams its a minimum of $1,200 to play the tournament including hotel, travel, fees, food, tolls and the criminal $18 parent entrance fee. The $1,200 is just about the same cost as the entire season club fees. Plus out of three games we played one at Disney and the rest at off site fields.
For $1200 we could play in at least three regional tournaments or 20 plus local tournaments.
Clubs like to base going on the fact that your kid will get a chance to be seen by college coaches but the reality is that at ages under U15 and in the non-showcase games little or no college coaches are watching.

I guess thats the million dollar question, outside the top bracket, is their value? I see it both ways, I don't have a very objective view point, because i'm not a big "disney" fan and my kids really don't care for the parks and the crowds etc.

First real tournament/showcase that we've attended, and more focus now on older ages as strictly a showcase. I've been to countless tournaments, and I actually saw college coaches for the first time at Disney. Given the thousands of dollars spent on wannabee tournaments/showcases, it was well worth the extra money for Disney. We are all already neck deep in costs, what's a few hundred more for something that is actually real/worthwhile in terms of exposure?
