Curious as to why you would say the entire DA system is catered to the system's best players. If anything, I'd say it creates much more exposure for players who are not the best on their team. No shade, genuinely curious to hear your opinion.

Just saying that the top players, the national team pool players at the older ages are so busy with their national team duties/commitments and now signing homegrown contracts, that they are playing in very few DA academy games for the older 2 age groups. Absolutely creates more exposure etc. Just bring it up because substitution rules etc, where as the vast majority of the kids will be playing in college when they are done with academy vs playing pro but the rules are catered towards the top 1% of future national team players.

This has kind of always been the case because of the residency program. If that still existed, Serrano would no doubt be there and wouldn't be playing DA anyway. I'd argue that now, with the residency program dead, the top 1% of players are playing for their clubs' academies more than ever. I guess my question is how are the rules "catered toward the top 1% of future national team players?" Is it simply because they play more minutes or is it deeper than that in your opinion?

I think I would just like to see more flexibility with substitutions at the younger age groups. For example allowing re-entry in the 2nd half if taken out in the first half. I also thinks this is different for MLS DA squads vs non MLS teams. Where the MLS DA's goals are to groom first team players, and players that fit your MLS goals and playing styles vs the federations. Keepers should also be allowed some flexibility to get more games in. I've sometimes joked that playing on a garbage team, can be a great training session for keepers. I've known keepers on some of these teams that see little action and then are also splitting time with other keepers. Maybe allowing 2nd keepers to be permanent DP players vs the 6 game limitation.
I just hate watching a u13 DA game, and seeing kids play 1/2 a game and they don't have another game for 2 weeks for example. At u13 coaches shouldn't worry about injuries and not having a sub left to get in the game. I'm not for equal playing time, but I am for giving kids a fair shake.
