Sure, I’m referring to the U17s. Watched them play, and as I said, talented. However, the CBs for example, were picked for their size, no doubt. I’m sure they’re nice boys from great families. Omg - yes, I would live my kid to play DA for AtlUtd. This forum had had many threads on how we can compete with th rest of the world - I would say just look at the primary characteristics of other countries’ players ... SPAIN, for example. It’s not about size. Can you have both size and skill? Of course, but I’m just making a judgment based on what I saw - sorry if I came off harsh, etc.

Not harsh, I was just curious as to what you saw and your synopsis. I agree with you on the U17s, I definitely think there are some boys around town who would be better suited to play at AU. Unfortunately, that's the special ingredient that makes soccer special. You ask a dozen different coaches and they will each come up with a different line up and different valuation of talent. In Football, Baseball and even Basketball, one can use stats to do a side by side comparison and then use that info to make a more informed decision.

Their is a ton of talent in this city. maybe not future USMNT players or future MLS players or future Atlanta United players, but tons of serviceable players that when put with a group of guys that are committed to be successful and are well coached, can hang with anyone. Similar to the GA United 02 team last year, maybe not the most physically gifted group, but they were a group of technical kids that new how to play soccer and use the entire field. They were extremely well coached. UFA has some quality coaches still around, and Karl at Concorde gets major props from me, the dude just gets it done! And give a kid a reason to work hard, and they will often step up their game. While many of the concorde/ufa kids aren't acceptable to Atlanta Uniteds standards, they are still very good players and in some cases might be better than what they have but are not being projected as future MLS players of value. Nothing wrong with that either. just noticed - atlutdprospects at dirty south soccer wrote up a summary as well, good stuff! His last point is a great one, good to see some local competition in the day an age of traveling across the globe for competition. www.dirtysouthsoccer.com/2018/3/20/17139792/georgia-youth-derbies-prepare-atlanta-united-academy-teams-for-international-foes

Thanks for sharing that article, Soccerhouse (I haven’t figured out how to tag people in this forum yet) I thought this part was great: “It’s hard to draw too many conclusions from a small sample size of one weekend, but there is one thing that we can pull from the results of this most recent round of ATL academy derby matches: the pool of young talent in the Atlanta area is incredibly deep, as is the pool of coaching talent. None of that is really news, and of course that talent depth is not limited to just Development Academy clubs. Still, in a day and age where it seems the best youth teams are traveling farther than ever to get proper competition, it’s refreshing to see that a club with as much talent and resources as Atlanta United can be seriously challenged in their own backyard.” edit from admin -- so close, all you have to do is use the @ symbol followed by the username to tag people. Your only minor mistake, was the period after soccerhouse. next time! The other trick is it as to be the username vs screen name/display name. So for me its not actually soccerhouse but admin, somewhat confusing.....

To me, with the exception of a couple to a few players, AU is exactly what's wrong with American soccer. Their CBs, for instance, are gigantic and extremely physical. Yes, they're very good. But not the best, and that's the problem. America is always about size... stupid. I have to respectfully disagree with this as it relates to the U17 CBs. Both are top level players--yeah, they are big, but they are also good with the ball and read the game very well. Many people think they are the MVPs of the AU team this year. One was a highly successful forward for GSA, who scored many goals and led that team to national finals. He started playing CB a few years ago. He is also a youth international. The other was a holding mid for the Philadelphia Union Academy until his parents moved to Atlanta for professional reasons, so he came to Georgia United. He kept growing, and now uses his midfielder skills as a CB. You say they are "not the best," but i ask "who is better?" SaveSave

Looks like the AU U14s finally got back the game they lost against NASA in the fall. They won today 4-0 in a compelling fashion. Having their National Team player on hand, along with a better line-up and a better start right out of the gate contributed to their win today.

Unfortunately, UFAs 17s didn't follow up their gritty performance and lost this weekends game to Kendall 2-1. They had to beat them and IMG last week to make a push for the playoffs, anything is possible if they win out, but being 9-10-6 on the year so far, isn't too good given the bottom of the conference is pretty bad. Maybe the decision to carry so many 02s helps for next year, but anything can happen between seasons, and they also needed a group of 01s to help out with the new u19 age group next year.
UFA's u15s also had a bad showing against a quality Kendall side - lost 4-0 and they drop to 6-12-6 on the year. No playoff for this age group, but as of right now this team seems to have under performed and no reason they are so far behind concorde. That is now back to back games being shut out.
