from Anderson Independent-Mail (South Carolina) Last season, the highest level of college football suffered its second largest drop ever in average attendance. The 129 NCAA Division I bowl subdivision teams drew an average crowd of 42,203 per game, including neutral-site and bowl games. That is a 3.23 percent decrease from the previous season and merely 163 more fans per game than the 1985 season.
For the first time since 1948, when the NCAA began recording crowds, attendance has declined in four consecutive seasons. The trend includes small upstart programs and former powerhouses, from every part of the country.

Could this be from the continually higher prices of tickets? Much like the NFL,where people simply can't afford to go to regular season games without taking out a second mortgage on their home. Just a guess... I know UGA prices are going up yet again.

Makes sense. I mean isn’t the nfl, mlb and nba going through similar things? I mean I’d rather watch a game at home in my comfy setting with my 102 inch Tv and bottomless keg then fight those crowds at all of our horrible local pro teams. (Sarcasm) but still who wants to spend $500-1000 for a family of four to go watch uga or the falcons and not sit in the nose bleeds.

I just hope as MLS soccer continues to grow in this country, they "powers-that-be" keep in mind just how important the fan base is to the game and that they keep the prices reasonable enough for the average fan to be able to afford it. Imagine going to a game (or even watching one on TV) where the supporters sections have been priced-out of the stadium? Sure I'd still love to watch the game because its soccer, but it wouldn't have the same feel or effect on the experience.

Exactly, agree with everything you said. My son would say “I could buy a pair of cleats for that much” 😃 Games downtown take too much time/effort/$ for games to go to. I have 3 I’m Soccer and one graduating so the TV does us well!!! Besides, can’t travel to England or Spain for games, but we sure do get a great picture on the Hitachi 👍

Bahahaha!!! if the MLS ever becomes as big as nfl, nba, mlb or even the nhl they will raise prices higher and higher until only corporate tickets can be bought like the others. Blank would love to sell AUFC tickets for the same as his Falcons.

LOL... I know, I know... I said "I hope". So sad to think of it being like all the others though. My kids love going to the ATL UTD games right now, and thankfully it is still reasonable affordable at the moment.
