soccerdaddy with the 20,000 post on the forum!!!!! Huge accomplishment! WHATTTTTT!!!!!!! I think this will be the case for a lot of folks to come. Especially, towards the end of the season coming. It’s really picking up lately! Hopefully it won’t be for the next 10 years until we get youth soccer straightened out! Thank you SoccerHouse!!!

I think it is interesting though that both the Michigan Hawks and FC Stars directors are on the ECNL board. I think ECNL has made a great league, but in their history there have been high quality clubs that were denied entrance for a long time and even up until DA. Tophat didn't get in until a couple of years ago despite a fantastic track record of quality players and teams. UFA has never been allowed in despite having an excellent top team for a number of years. I haven't the inside knowledge about SSA as I don't have good friends there but it would surprise me if they have never tried to get in. Obviously too many clubs waters things down too much but Atlanta has 5 million people!

I listened. The gist of it is that USSF is forcing DA teams to play only DA teams, which limits their development, and the substitution rules limit your ability to give everyone playing time.
Yeah, I wouldn't want to pay for a flight somewhere for zero playing time.

What is the philosophy behind???

I think the goal is have you DA players/teams playing consistently high level teams and players. Supposedly a lower risk of injuries and more insight on playing high level opponents. Which is nonsense, because, great players in Europe and around the world play anyone, anytime, anywhere... what say them now.

I read a review of European academies and loved the Ajax model requiring their younger kids (who weren't training 4x/week yet) to go home and play soccer in their neighborhoods on their days off. I guess they're not worried that little Ruud will lose his touch because he's facing inferior opposition.

Yea, thats my opinion -- who cares what league they do or don't play in, if they can give you a competitive game, play them!

Cue the book "Outliers" and the 10,000 hour rule of mastering something. Playing in the streets with your friends, the backyard, organized, recess, etc. All of those different experiences allows you to explore and find your skills and style at a much younger age. When you get to the U15/16 age range, that is when you can start selective play and interfacing with players of a higher skill level so as to hone your skills. That is when tactics, lines of attack, models of play and strategy get implemented. Till then I say scrimmage away and please encourage your kids to try tricks and play. After-all, soccer is supposed to be fun.

Now that is something I wish we could replicate here, but I guess it's in the water. Their wholistic approach to training young talent and putting them through their TiPS model in conjunction with the 8 ingredients of soccer creates such a complete player. People have tried for years to replicate their model, all to no avail. I've seen what they can do first hand and I so believe in it, I wrote about their propensity for success as part of a dissertation in college. It converted my professor and got me an A
