Lack of direction, board members that wonder to much to the coaching side, a rotating coaching staff of grad students from Clayton state, lack of development for individual players, too much coaches/parent politics. I mean they have a huge Rec program, lots of Pre Acad and U9/10s but barely field one or two teams in U11/12s. Now that it is what 3 years coming out of the Gsa merger they’ve only fielded 4-5 Select teams. And oh yeah the same people that thought it was a good idea to merge with gsa are still in charge. I know Gareth and have worked with him, he’s a great coach, but he is over his head as a DOC.

First off - What JumpJumpKeep311 said. Secondly, are you asking if parents can have input on rosters? And if so in what way? I'm not judging but Parents should not have input on rosters.

I thought before the GSA merger, TYSA understood their place in the pecking order of youth soccer. They were a local youth club offering a service to the community and folks who wanted something closer. They were not a destination club, and never will be.

My nephew and nieces play at TYSA, one in academy and 2 in rec. It’s the best rec program in the area. My nephew loves his academy team. I don’t go to practices but I’ve seen a lot of skill improvement over the past year in their games and his team has been pretty successful. My younger niece will likely play academy there in the fall. She’s particularly fond of Coach A.R. A lot of players left after the split from GSA. Most of the academy and select teams were built up from very few players over the past few years. It’s not a destination club so select teams will have to be built over the years from the academy program. With any club you’re considering for academy, ask if your child can participate in practices or go to open house sessions. If it’s a younger age group, there will be parents there. Talk to them. They’re the best ones to tell you what the program is like. Talk to the coaches. They can tell you their qualifications, how long they’ve coached there, what the club philosophy is, etc. There was an academy tournament in March with a lot of the teams from TYSA, DDY and Chiefs. Looking at those results can give you a feel for the strength of nearby teams. It’s definitely not the only thing to consider and will change a lot over the years. soccer.sincsports.com/Schedule.aspx?tid=TYSASPAT&tab=3&sub=2

I registered on this site just to share my thoughts. They are strong but they are true to my personal experience. I am not a fan of TYSA. For a club touting itself as a community club its homogenous Board is anything but reflective of the Tucker community. Check them out on their site. Same as it always was: Good Old Boys, each and every one. Personal friends of the President, friends of friends, etc. Tammany Hall has nothing on them regarding recruiting practices. They are inclusive and corrupt to the core, especially to women.
And yes, parents have input on rosters. If you complain loud and long enough, your child can play anywhere you want – divisions, teams, games, etc. TYSA has succeeded so far despite Gareth, not because of him. He had the good fortune of hiring AR. She is both the saving grace of that club and its beast of burden.
The positive thing to take from this is that there are many decent small clubs in the same vicinity that make great alternatives.
