Is there any rationale for the location of ODP being on the south side Atlanta, and I'm being kind calling it south Atlanta, compared to the majority of Girl's players being on the north side of 285. Most parents I talked to drive anywhere between 1.5-2 hours with traffic for ODP practices.
Do they rotate who hosts ODP every few years or is it set in stone at the current location.

The facilities have to be approved by GA Soccer and are part of a bid process. During the years my kid was involved: UFA - Fowler Park - due to UFA Games, often ended up with multiple teams on one small field Badger Creek - great facility - people on the east side of metro Atlanta griped about that commute - - so GA Soccer moved it to RYSA - because that's so much closer. Our age group had options with our coach so sometimes we would get to practice elsewhere but even that had to be approved and blessed by Jacob Daniel. Still trying to get the rationale for letting the boys use Atlanta United's practice facilities in Cobb County and making the girls haul it to RYSA where were got rained out pretty much all spring. But short answer to your question - they get assigned the fields by whatever club bids for and gets approval

It’s pretty much up to the clubs that bid for them / give ODP their fields for free plus a mix of coaches requests. I know a lot of the girls coaches that live on the Eastside/Gwinnett so RYSA was preferred over Badger Creek and Fayetteville.

Why not rotate the facility evey session? Seems clubs should be willing to provide 2 fields once over a 8 month window.

Sometimes it dependes on the coach. Last time my daughter did it, all the girls went to Rysa, but we went to Marietta. Our coach was a college coach and they let us use the university fields.

I've been coaching ODP for nine years and never understood the logic of driving out to RYSA, it's a nightmare getting out there on a Friday night. I'm thankful our practices were moved to the Atlanta United practice facility last year as its 10 minutes from my house in Vinings.
As for the poster who asked why the boys were moved to the AU practice facility, the easy answer is so AU can scout the ODP players for the their DA teams.

We appreciate AU allowing our player to practice at their facility. He will always have that memory!

It sucks when you live much closer to say, Badger Creek... and then have to trek it all the way out to RYSA. It goes both ways with the griping but I guess some have louder voices than others.

Driving to RYSA on a Friday night once a month is a right of passage that every player and parent should experience in Georgia Soccer. Nothing like leaving your house at 5 to make it there on time for a 7 pm training session. Add in 3 to 4 ten to twelve year old boys and your guareenteed to swallow an entire bottle of Advil during the drive.
285 was a parking lot from spagetti junction to 20 20 was a parking lot routinely for the first few exits as well.
Oh yea, then after training we had to feed this kids, so we would rush to chikifila before it closed. We Usually would get home around 10:30 depending upon the carpool.
Usually the first 20 mins of each session, parents would just stand around debating who had the worse drive there.

Related topic: can definitely tell the difference in play between this year’s teams and last year’s. 01 and 03 teams did not fare well in this weekend’s Puma showcase. Didn’t win a game. 02s haven’t done much either.

I assume the same happened with the other age groups

The "Lights of Life" at Xmas are pretty cool. I was just confirming who I thought your coach was when you said it was a college coach in Marietta. So, how did you like him as a coach?

I believe 02s went 2-1 from what I saw on the puma result page. My friend said they lost third on a slick field in the rain. From what I recall from a former thread this team also had AU u16s/17s tied 1-1 at half and had the better play in first half until subs came in. I believe they lost 3-1. I was reminded that this group practices once per month versus 4 to 5 times a week DA teams do. All in all not a bad result either place.

Just to clarify, I was referring to the girls ODP teams. 01s and 03s were winless. 02s did not enter. Sub-regionals rained out for the 2nd year in a row. I think the 02 team’s season totaled about 5 practices and no games so far. Reminds one of the R3PL experience.
