SCCL will be out of Norcross, some coaching assignment info has been trickling out for the last few weeks, but it was not on the agenda yesterday. So nothing official yet, but I believe coaches know.

How competitive will a third best team at UFA be against first or second best teams from other clubs in SCCL? UFA Norcross numbers and talent have been declining. Might be a brutal season of ties and losses.

You're correct that the numbers at Norcross have been steadily declining over the last few years. I think one of the main reasons is because Forsyth has been the destination for good soccer and better opponents within UFA. Since there was nothing to offer the really good players at Norcross a lot of folks let for Forsyth. I think now with the SCCL in very short order will be a great way to bring kids back to Norcross and UFA as a whole. UFA having a DA program on both sides of the house will also help with siblings since both kids can stay and have a pathway to DA. I envision the SCCL as a great recruiting tool for kids at other clubs. Because at a certain point, they will want to play against the better teams or move to clubs to play with better players. Finally, the SCCL has already or is working on secured guaranteed spots at the big showcase tournaments for their teams.

Seems odd to regardless of quality to always assign higher team to Forsyth and npl. No question Norcross peaked under TA and Before the ufa merger he did all he could to elevate Norcross. Hopefully numbers are back up there, because at the end of the day it’s a numbers game. But when tony left so did a lot of quality coaches from Norcross.

Would love to see UFA-Norcross be able to attract and retain more talent. I know several girls/families that left for more opportunities that was perceived (perception is reality?) to exist at either UFA-Forsyth or at other clubs that had an ECNL or DA team at their location.

For 01B, I’ve seen the top RPL team switch from Forsyth to Norcross. It doesn’t matter what location - you’re in the same club. Btw - I’m not a UFA parent. If your son/daughter is talented, they’ll match you up with the right team.

Info on the Coaching Assignments should be coming shortly. In regards to the CL, all your son/daughter has to do is make the Premier team at Norcross and they make the CL team. If they make the Premier team at Forsyth they make the NPL team.

Futsal Gawdess, in your opinion would the CL team be considered the 2nd best team or the 3rd best team at UFA? Basically the team right behind the DA team? I'm confused since I thought I saw some comments that this new SCCL should be better than the NPL team, at least in theory.

Usually girls Norcross Premier is not as good as Forsyth however once they are U14 the DA team starts and pulls kids from all over. I think it will be different in each age group. As an aside I never got the impression that SCCL is supposed to be a higher level than NPL. I think the NPL is to give an opportunity to those former RPL teams something to play without having to fall back into Athena A. SCCL is also an alternative to RPL so I think only time will tell which will end up more competitive.

For this year NPL, the top teams play in the playoffs (ENPL) with the top ECNL teams - so I doubt SCCL will be considered the better team.

Many UFA teams were playing both RPL and MOM. Since SCCL is brand new no one knows. Initially I thought UFA was going to do NPL for the "better" team and SCCL for the next one but it appears location will be the decision maker this year. Who knows if that will last?

I too personally feel based on it's history that NPL is higher. But again the proof is in the pudding and it all comes down to where the better players choose to congregate. So in the scheme of things, should the top girls at the club be at Forsyth then if it's a DA eligible birth year they would make DA and the SCCL would have the pick of the next best XI theoretically speaking. However, you can't force a player to schlep all the way down to Norcross from Forsyth 3-4 times a week + games, so NPL might be the better option. Will be a confusing tryout season across the board. I hope UFA is willing to meet with parents and parse through all these different scenarios.

In looking at the difference between NPL (National Premier League) and PL (Premier League) on the US Club website its hard to figure out if one is considered higher than the other. NPL definitely has the ability to compete in a end of the year tournament against ECNL teams. Do not see that PL teams have that option. NPL teams can also qualify for ENPL, where I do not see an option for PL.
My guess is that NPL teams will involve more travel than PL as teams are further spread out. If you are OK with traveling then NPL is an option. Don't want to travel as much , then PL is the better option.
I was told that if the DA team is based out of Forsyth, then SCCL is out of Norcross and then NPL out of Forsyth. If DA at Norcross, then the reverse. Seems like they would just do one (NPL or SCCL) out of each location across age groups. I also was told that for players coming in from other clubs, if they want a path to DA that path goes through the SCCL team. .
Not many Norcross people will drive to Forsyth, and not many Forsyth people would drive to Norcross. If you are in the middle (which we are) you can pick your poison. I personally would have preferred that UFA do a combined team for the SCCL practicing out of South Forsyth. UFA may be spreading itself a little thin on teams.
Team meeting on Thursday where it is supposed to be explained.

If history is any guide, that seems like the way it will be setup. I know that the UFA-Norcross Premier 03 girls team did well in RPL last season (only one loss to the top team, AFC Lightning NPL) and placed 2nd and were slotted to move up to play SRPL in the fall regardless of the State Cup results. I imagine some of the girls and families will feel the short end of the stick again when they are given UFA's 3rd level team slot of SCCL. IMHO this will continue the talent and numbers drain at the Norcross location that was mentioned above. Not sure this new SCCL league will be able to change that.

I know of one girl from that team who is practicing with DA and played in the last several games for that DA team. The Norcross website congratulated her and another player from Norcross. The best players will eventually have to choose DA or ECNL for now. But Norcross numbers are going down usually earlier than that...U12 and U13 for girls. They leave to play ECNL elsewhere. Possibly this will stop that loss and help retain the younger ones for now and if SCCL ends up being as good as RPL in the long run it may help. Only time will tell.
