NPL = National Premier League
AFC Lightning (Ga.) CSA Elite North/H’ville (N.C.) CSA Elite South (N.C.) Discoveries SC (S.C.) Lake Norman SC (N.C.) Southern Soccer Academy (Ga.) Triangle United Soccer Association (N.C.) United Futbol Academy (Ga.) United Soccer Academy (S.C.) Wake FC (N.C.) SCCL = Southeastern Clubs Championship LeagueBirmingham United SA (Ala.) Carolina Elite Soccer Academy (S.C.) Concorde Fire (Ga.) Gwinnett Soccer Academy (Ga.) NASA TopHat (Ga.) Southern Soccer Academy (Ga.) United Futbol Academy (Ga.) Vestavia Hills SC (Ala.) Questions:
I have read the league pages but still do not understand a few questions. Can someone help me. At the U13 and U14 age groups are they playing year round soccer in both of these leagues? As in is it one long season from August to May Or is it two separate seasons like U8-12 Academy with a Fall and Spring season? Or are all the games in the fall with showcases and and regional/national playoffs in the spring? So if playing on an NPL team you only play 9 games? Each team once? And would you play more than one NC or SC team in a weekend? If playing SCCL do you only play 7 games? Each team once? And am I correct both Alabama games are "planned" to be the same weekend? I am not looking to debate which league is better. I just need to understand the travel and scheduling of the season in each league. Thank you. GM

In the SCCL, you would play 14 games in the fall and 14 in the spring in a Home/Away format. From what I've been told, the NPL will now have a full season also, but it will be more than 9 games. Since this is the first year(fall 2018) of the NPL putting on a full slate of games and the newly created East/West divisions there will be a round robin within your division and then the potential of playing teams from the other division throughout the year (fall & spring). The east/west only applies to the boys, the girls will just play the round robin format home/away. Again this is what I was told and I've not been able to independently verify.
Boys – West Division: AFC Lightning (Ga.) Chattanooga FC Academy (Tenn.) FC Alliance (Tenn.) Southern Soccer Academy (Ga.) United Futbol Academy (Ga.)
Boys – East Division: CSA Elite North/H’ville (N.C.) CSA Elite South (N.C.) Discoveries SC (S.C.) Lake Norman SC (N.C.) Triangle United Soccer Association (N.C.) USA Mount Pleasant (S.C.) USA Tormenta FC (Ga.) Wake FC (N.C.)
Girls: AFC Lightning (Ga.) CSA Elite North/H’ville (N.C.) CSA Elite South (N.C.) Discoveries SC (S.C.) Lake Norman SC (N.C.) Southern Soccer Academy (Ga.) Triangle United Soccer Association (N.C.) United Futbol Academy (Ga.) United Soccer Academy (S.C.) Wake FC (N.C.)

I would expect the boys to try and add 3 more teams in the NPL West Division. Two divisions of 8 would allow 14 games per season playing home and away. Seems like this would be put in place by now given how close we are to tryouts.

PLUS everyone in the other division once either home OR away. So 16 games total. All in the Fall for 03 and up that are in high school in the Spring.

So U18 girls could play 20 games in the fall?? Wow that's a lot, plus a tournament or two.

For SCCL in particular, has anyone heard any more regarding the amount travel expected? As of the end of last week, I heard there was more travel than initially thought (ie Orlando, Virginia, etc) due to showcases etc but I haven’t seen it mentioned on this forum or otherwise. If that is true, then wouldn’t that be counter to one of the reasons it was formed - to cut down on travel and expenses?

It is not a new league, the SCCL is the new league and it was created to counter the travel and especially the DIS-organizational aspect.

SCCL cuts down on the travel for season league games. But yes I would still expect out of town tournaments.
And I agree ultimately it was formed due to disorganized chaos in the scheduling/actual match play.
More than one example of two local teams driving out of town to play each other and end up cancelled.

With respect to SCCL, any insights into how the Spring games would work for kids that are older and play for their HS teams? How many games? Games before, during, or after HS season?

Thats a good question. I hadn't thought about this til now, but I'm guessing another possible reason these clubs created SCCL was so they could get HS kids to pay a full-year tuition rather than half-year. I imagine the cost for NPL teams has gone up also (since it was merely a complementary league previously).

Costs are up for sure - registration fees are increasing every year.
Registration fees for DA are looking like a bargain.

NO - was just saying registration fees was a bargain -- not overall costs.

The clear winner is SCCL unless playing for AU. DA has to many rules and ECNL is $6-8K more expensive. I think we will decide wherever there is a quality coach while all the clubs/levels fight each other for positioning. My daughter was on a "3rd team," and she made ECNL at U17, we saved a bunch of money

And would the SCCL determine the number of showcases and/or tournaments the participating clubs would play in, or do the clubs decide? Not sure if this is correct, but I did hear a total of eight for SCCL.
