Anyone know the protocol or experienced in the past a complete rain out of Round Robin Play at the State Cup level? Currently this weekend shows 80-90% Severe thunderstorms for the entire weekend. There is not that much time for make up games considering the Final 4 is next weekend.
I understand they will do their best to get games in and will play in rain, but thunderstorms might make that impossible.
What is worse case scenario.... do they advance teams purely by seeding?

It is a rather obscure and hardly ever used rule. Thanks for posting this for all to read! In all seriousness, this is a pretty interesting scenario. Storms prevent completion of games. There is too much riding on it to simply convert whole games to Kicks from the Mark to decide winners. Certainly this is not the first time this conundrum has been faced. So someone with knowledge please add the actual procedures please.

Most likely they would delay as long as they could and then worst case go straight to PKs. I do know that games that get past halftime that have to be delayed more then an hour will be called as Final.

Does anyone actually know the answer to this question posed? Weather continues to look stormy throughout the weekend.. any possibility they would try to shift games a day? Or is it more about what was thought above about shortening games/going to PKs?

If PKs are used to decide State Cup, rather the GA Soccer making a real effort to reschedule the tournament, I will be even more happy to leave GA Soccer than before.

There’s not much time to reschedule the games so PKs is probably the worst case scenario. I mean they could reschedule games allowing home/higher seeded teams to play at home since I doubt Columbus has hotels available for the following weekend.

I honestly believe that the most fair scenario, if the upcoming round robin state cup is cancelled, would be to have the top 4 seeds advance to the final four and reimburse the other teams. At least that way you are rewarding the teams who succeeded during the season. If teams pay $750 for 10 minutes of bogus pk’s to decide that would be a joke.

Ga Soccer doenst do refunds. Seriously though, taking the top 4 seeds makes decent and logical sense so that’s definitely not going to happen.

I initially threw out the topic as a half joke but it seriously looks like there may not be games this weekend. I did some research and Woodruff Farm Park is all grass fields which significantly drops the likelihood of games being played. For future years Georgia Soccer should really consider moving to a venue with easier access to turf fields.
So again: Options 1: games decided by bogus pk's Option 2: Reschedule games to weeknights at the home field of the top 3 or 4 seeds. Option 3 shorten the games and pray can cram the games in. Option 4: advance the top 4 seeds, reimburse the other teams and not force all the teams/parents to sit in hotels all weekend in Columbus while games are never played.

This was the Tuesday update from the State Cup: WEATHER: It's too early to know what the weather will do this weekend. State Cup games will be played as long as the fields are playable and there is no severe weather. Be prepared in case of rain and/or delays.

Yeah right on! I quit Concord fire when they got rained out! Haha, touche! Maybe a better way to say it is that of all the tournaments in which my kids have been involved, State Cup and Disney have been the only tournaments for which I've had no criticism or disappointment. In fact, I've loved the State Cup experience as a parent over the years, and I totally credit GA Soccer for it. If they bungle this one, I'm not sure what's left for them to claim as a flagship service. They can't control weather, but they can control how they communicate and develop a back up plan.

Not in U16 division since they refused to reseed after #3 Concorde pulled out. It’s too bad, the last State Cup looks like it may be rained out. I actually enjoyed the annual migration down to Columbus.

That weather looks no Bueno. GA Soccer should put on their website their backup plan, atleast send the info to the coaches and TM's.

Here is is today's update from the Georgia Soccer State Cup:
5.23 - Rosters freeze today, Wednesday, May 23. Online check-in closes at 4 pm. Click on the check-in tab for details. WEATHER UPDATE: We are monitoring the weather and will provide updates if/when there is new information. It is important that extraordinary efforts be made to get games played and at this time we are planning to play matches as scheduled.
If this is still their message by Thursday evening, and weather doesn't improve, teams are going to be stuck with hotels they can't cancel and games they likely won't play. Even if they force us to go to Columbus, lay out the worse case scenario for TM's and coaches so we can plan. Might be time to do 90 minutes of pk's at practice tonight and Thursday.

Back up plan could be games on the following weekend June 2,3,4. Then final four and championship either the 5th and 6th or June 9/10. I would think hotels would have more availability’s any weekend than memorial weekend. However that decision would need to be made today. Allow time to cancel rooms and rebook. But to your point they should be commicating back up plan. I believe we all know that their plan is to have everyone drive down there, stay in Columbus overpaint hotels, eat at crowed restaurants and then play shortened games or pks on wet fields.

I hope Georgia Soccer would not do PK for State Cup. You could wind up with some lower level team sneaking into regionals then getting hammered by other states top teams. I am sure Georgia Soccer does not want that.

But the #3 seed drops out and they don't add another team?!?! Just stupid!

Just as a counterpoint, have the ECNL Finals ever been rained out? If so what did US Club do? Turf fields, make up dates?
