Yes, the spine was a big issue. I hope they do roster some of the 05s with the 04s. It seems like they plan to permanently roster the three 04s who currently play up. That would open the door for some of the 05s to come up and play. The 04s need a CB and they need a consistent striker who knows how to “pass and move.” The 05s have such a striker (who has been playing up with the 04s for the last few weeks). I do think success will come with developing a consistent back line, though. Defense seemed to be an afterthought on the 04s this year. Rumor has it that an 04 defender is returning after a season off to play with the 04s... As far as retentions, I would cut a few more than just 3. The majority of the offensive players have had difficulty scoring against tougher opponents. Shouldn’t you look to replace offensive players who can’t score? Now, that would be a shakeup. There are some smaller players that could get cut that I think shouldn’t. For example, one of our little friends is a tiny midfielder who has great vision. He doesn’t get a lot of playing time at all, but he hasn’t hit his growth spurt like some of the other kids. I think, however, he is probably one of the three that could be cut. However, they told the boys 2-3 cuts. I think they can trim around the edges, though. 😉. I do know that their coach for next year is concerned about the overall work ethic of the 04s. Heard he wasn’t pleased with their practice ethic. I guess another question I have is whether they will retain kids based on “potential” rather than output. So it looks like reports out of the current u14s, rising u15s is 4 lads were released and one Bio-Banded down to the 2005s. Where these the ones that you suspected would be released? I also hear you may be adding a midfielder from NASA and a striker from CF? Talking about 2005s, I hear for the first time in history not a single player was cut, you will have one Bio-Banded down to the 2006s. I know the 2005s are good but do you think some changes are afoot as other local clubs will be tweaking their rosters to counterbalance theirs. Just my 2 cents, will sit back and lookout for your opinion(s). So...this is what I am hearing. In a nutshell, not all of the boys who were released were the ones expected. There were definitely some surprises. For example, I heard the kept a forward who didn’t score any goals all season but cut one that came in late and did score goals. So, apparently, output didn’t matter, but size may have been the deciding factor. I think there are only 2-3 smaller boys left on the team. There are 2 bio-bands in the 04 ages group, but a lot of folks are puzzled as to why they retained one of those 2 bio-bands since it seems there were better players who were cut (just based on output (e.g., goals scored, attitude, soccer IQ ). Word is also that only one will move up to the 02/03 team for now, however, I have also heard that another will eventually be moved up after the season begins. But, it is going to be interesting. Heard a few of the boys who were cut may be at Concorde next year in addition to another one who was cut the year before. And, it seems like UFA’s team is going to have a very solid defense, so next year’s games between these three teams should be fun to watch.

From what I've been told, a request to come do a look see at the AU training grounds was turned down by one of the AFC keepers. The distance and his father's work travel schedule would be an issue, so he politely turned down the offer for AU to check him out. Not sure if there are alternate plans on the horizon.

I think this is the newest buzz-word and push from the US Soccer Federation. Not sure if it's widely being implemented. I know of only one instance locally where it was tried, with the current U14s at UFA. They had a kid born around the Dec 28th, so he was a young 2004. He practiced with the 2005s, not sure if he was ever actually rostered and played a game with them. AU is going full steam ahead with it this up coming year. Also heard a few of the bigger and less challenged lads will play up more often. Should be fun to see how this experiment works and hope it gives boys who haven't hit their growth spurt a chance. LSA’s 04 DA team had a couple of 03 players who appeared in several games with them.

So whats the scoop on the AU 2002 and 2003s? All have been retained? That is a lot tougher since the 2003s are the younger of the U16/17 age group and the 2002s have been on ice for the last year. This is their year to shine. The 2003s also had a myriad of issues they had to contend with this season, not sure how things will shake out. Many are going to the showcase/playoffs later this month, so it will take a minute for this to source itself out. One final note, the U17s along with the U13s will both have a new coach so that will have something to do with how things shake out. As I know more i'll share.

Sorry, that I don't know. TBH-this was my first time ever seeing a Dalton team play. They came out extremely focused & controlled much of the possession in the first half. But perhaps one of the things that could make this AU team special-is rarely do they lose their cool, or overplay, & can eventually wear an opponent down.

Did AU 05’s add another keeper? Yes, AU now has two goalkeepers. Apparently they were looking at both AFC goalkeepers. One was not interested because of the distance to travel, the other is now officially on the team. He played Saturday because the regular AU goalkeeper has a hand injury and couldn't play against the Dalton 2004 boys team(scrimmage).

The Dalton 04s won state back in November and are headed to regionals Tuesday.
The game against AU Saturday was a real treat for the Dalton boys and a good trial for the new players picked up at tryouts. I agree that Dalton had control over the first half and AU took over in the second. The teams were a good matchup and gave and took pretty evenly if you compare the two halves. Overall it was a good game and both teams kept their cool regardless of the score
The 05 AU keeper did a fine job and played well with his new teammates so I'd count him as a nice addition to his team if that game was any indication of future play.

My son worked out (keeper) with AU in the fall and in March and some in April. I'm glad to hear they added a second keeper, thanks for the update.
