All State Cup games will be played in the Metro Atlanta area. Your venue will be posted later is morning, with schedules to follow. We are working to finalize turf fields for everyone.
The Committee understands all the issues associated with moving on such short notice, but in an effort to insure that games get played this weekend, this is the only option.
Thank you for your understanding. Together we will make it work.

Did Sharron and the powers that be happen to notice the weather forecast in the Metro Atlanta Area for this weekend is thunderstorms?
I mean I guess 90% of thunderstorms is a better chance of playing games than 100% chance of tropical storm.
LOL

Fields in Columbus are covered in standing water. It sounds like they are going to line up mostly, if not all, turf fields

State cup should be in Atlanta anyway, glad it's where it belongs!

State Cup will never return to Columbus. After the success we're about to have - playing turf fields, players sleeping in their own beds, no hotel cost - parents will refuse to ever go back to Columbus. As it should be.

Will coaches who have multiple teams spread out over an hour apart consider it successful? Will parents with kids playing at different venues consider it successful? Will College coaches consider it successful commuting all over Metro Atlanta.
I guess it depends on what you consider successful.

In response to your questions - is not playing the State Cup successful? Is traveling 2 1/2 hours to get cancelled successful?
Great solution Georgia Soccer IMHO!!!!

Georgia Soccer did come up with a great solution not arguing that point.
My statement was directed at it being so successful parents will never let it go back to Columbus.
I wish there was a facility in Metro Atlanta big enough to host it every year.
But to have it so spread out every year would be a nightmare.

Franklin Gateway and the Atlanta United training facility could probably host a majority of State Cup and they are a mile apart.

Will coaches who have multiple teams spread out over an hour apart consider it successful? Will parents with kids playing at different venues consider it successful? Will College coaches consider it successful commuting all over Metro Atlanta. I guess it depends on what you consider successful. These have been the main arguments to have it in Columbus - even going from Woodruff Farm to Columbus State isn't that far so coaches (club and college) can handle it and it's do-able for parents with kids in different venues. Add in Atlanta traffic + rain + Memorial Day weekend activities - getting from point A to point B will be a hassle. Lake Point would be the ideal place as a host as long as all fields were available and set up for soccer. We've played many a game up there on a converted baseball field - it's not 'ideal' but it's better than cancelling a game. This: probably wouldn't work because Atlanta United is currently playing and there may be conflicts plus the Braves are playing and the new stadium is in that area. The one mile could take longer than going across town if the Braves were also in town Memorial Day weekends. For the rising Sophomores and Juniors hoping to be seen by college coaches at State Cup this year, it may be a disappointment and far from a 'success'. It sucks for them most of all but I do hope the weather holds, the traffic isn't horrific and college coaches are able to make the rounds. Curious about what GA Soccer will do about the U18-U19 games next week. Mt Carmel fields aren't ideal days after a rain, the forecast is calling for heavy thunderstorms all weekend and all next week. Just move those games up to Lake Point since they are mid week and figure out where the Final Four will be played.

Where is the Final Four suppose to be at this year??? Mt Carmel - Henry County fields - all grass. I'm thinking GA soccer needs to start thinking about the U18-U19 group and Final Four sooner than later

I hope some coaches make it to the U17 girls games in Roswell. It was nice being 20 minutes from my house and not having to schlep a tent. But the players are already not happy about not getting to watch games. But my wallet will be happier at $2.87 gas right now

Okay so here’s the question, how many parents already paid coaches/clubs for travel expenses for their coaches and do you think you’ll get that money back now that the games are local?

Coaching fees is a minor issue. I'm sure coaches and club can handle it. I'm glad they had the wherewithal to move the event.

Okay so here’s the question, how many parents already paid coaches/clubs for travel expenses for their coaches and do you think you’ll get that money back now that the games are local? We have NEVER had our club hold our team travel $’s. That’s for the team manager and any unused funds are refunded to each player. And our coach submits actual expenses after each season (or along the way), so they only get paid for actual expenses. I hope that all clubs work that way!

Okay so here’s the question, how many parents already paid coaches/clubs for travel expenses for their coaches and do you think you’ll get that money back now that the games are local? As the team manager I'm not bringing it up. Probably could recoup the hotel expenses but 3 days of travel will actually be further than the mileage to drive back and forth to Columbus. Per diem is the same. So enjoy the extra dollars coach. Over a year it equates to about $20 a month bonus.

Tms will do this for the teams. Yours is probably one of many that have already done so. This isn't an issue.
