With all the changes in the Metro Atlanta Soccer Landscape(MASL), I'm curious to see how things go overall, especially in the following areas: - What will tryouts look like at the two other U15+ DA clubs(UFA & CF)? - With 4 teams not having DA at U15+, how will that impact Boys ECNL teams? - Will the loss of GDA by CF, increase numbers and quality at 2 remaining GDA clubs(UFA & TH)? - With CF now having an alliance and 2 ECNL teams, will they retain, lose or increase #s(especially curious about SSA 05G)? - Introduction of SCCL, will that bring more players from non-SCCL clubs or run off current players from SCCL clubs to non-SCCL clubs? For those attending, please share your thoughts, comments, observations and experiences. Remember to put your patience pants on, wear loads of sunscreen and set realistic expectations. Unlike last week with the rains, it looks like this week it will be sunny and hot. Please make sure everyone hydrates adequately (parents too) and Good Luck

Day one of DA tryouts already kicked off yesterday. Especially for CF/UFA rising U15s. Both clubs had pre-tryout sessions yesterday. CF with boys from the both the SSA alliance and boys from other clubs. UFA had boys from CF, NASA and SSA. I do know of 4 offers that were extended to new-comers to both clubs. For those either not invited or going to tryouts over the next three days, you have your work cut out for you since both clubs have to contend with their current rosters, along with their pick of the DA boys that played U14 last year from 4 other clubs. Eat your Wheaties and come ready to have a true tryout for the remaining spots available on these teams. I truly wish you and your kids a lot of luck.

The system has to change, we are not doing this for the kids anymore. If parents continue to feed the monster, than the monster will only get stronger.

I am irritated with parents chasing players who leave. Worry about your kid and their development . I love how people say it’s not about wins and losses, but they chase the wins. They say one thing and do another. People keep it real with yourselves and your kids.
Diatribe Over

The only time I would root for a kid not making a team is when they have troublesome, obnoxious parents.

KIds are usually the way they are due to parents failing to do their job. Yes, some players are toxic. Those players often have parents that create issues also. One of my goals as a parent is to not be that parent, and not have those kids. It is also my responsibility to teach my kids how to deal with troublesome teammates since we will always have difficult folks in our lives. Sorry, that got a little serous for a Friday.

All you can do is advocate for your kids, and this soccer stuff is all about life lessons. These kids are getting a taste of life at an earlier stage than I did as as kid. The trails and tribulations that they go through now, will only help, as long as a parent gives them good guidance. Toxic kids and toxic parents only worsen a team dynamic.

It takes all kinds of people to make the world go 'round. However, I tend to gravitate towards the people that are more grounded. I get along best with soccer parents that believe youth sports are about life lessons first and foremost. Youth sports provide such amazing opportunities for kids to learn about their lives ahead. How to deal with failure, how to be a teammate, how to listen, how to deal with success, how to deal with difficult teammates or coaches, how to work towards a goal, how to compete fairly, etc., etc,.
There are so many parents that don't have this perspective and I have a tough time relating to them.
Almost every time you notice a "good kid", you'll find parents that mostly want their kids to learn life lessons through sports. And many of the troublesome kids have parents that are either chasing a dream or are parents that are just lost in the life guidance department.

This so much.
My older daughter made the team she was shooting for. When it was done I told her quite frankly 'this was all you. You did this.' She's been busting her ass on her own - stopped going to private trainers, etc - and just training herself. It's paid off, and she sees that.
Good lesson!
