Congrats to all who competed yesterday. I watched most of the boys U16 championship game and it was an exciting and intense final. Curious if any other age groups (boys or girls) other than the U18 girls were told at their awards ceremony after their final games yesterday, that even the state runner-ups (regardless of their SRPL finishes) were getting awarded a spot to compete at regionals?

That is a good mix of clubs winning championships:
3 for SSA 2 for Concorde 2 for PPA KSA 2 for UFA 1 for Atlanta Fire 1 for NTH 1 for Ambush 1 for GSA 1 for AFC

U13 Boys Finalist UFA received a wild card bid to Regionals. Championship game ended 0-0 and went to pk's. AFU won it I believe in the 8th or 9th penalty round.

Interesting that 16 of the 28 teams in Championship games, and 8 of 14 Champions, are Big 5 teams. 5 of the games had big 5 teams playing one another. If they are barred from State Cup next year how will that affect competitive levels?
Definitely opportunity for smaller clubs to claim State Cup Championships.

The Big Five will still be allowed to send their Athena/Classic teams, just not the former R3PL teams that will be playing SCCL. Like the regular season, State Cup will be more watered down but for the kids that win it they won’t care in 10-15 years.

Just from Piedmont League/NL

Just from Piedmont League/NL I believe most will forego State Cup, like ecnl teams used to. May use club pass though for a few players to play ‘down’ on Athena A team. I heard this was our clubs last state cup.

I don't see why they wouldnt participate if they have teams in Athena A / Classic 1

Yeah, wouldn't make sense to me for teams in Athena A/Classic 1 to not try to win the state tournament.

Sorry! I didn’t make it clear. I think Athena and Classic teams will still shoot for SC. Hence the comment that some SCCL players may club pass ‘down’ to these teams if warranted (playing time, skill level, injury spot).

Just from Piedmont League/NL I guess the next step in this question... Are NPL and SCCL teams banned from State Cup? Not the club but teams because they play under US Club soccer. They would not have US Youth Soccer player passes.

However players are not banned and if they wanted kids to guest play at State Cup they can just register them with Ga Soccer to play.

I always thought to enter state cup a team had to have played together the previous fall. (Not counting guest players.) But evidently that is not the case?

We are talking some guest players here like ECNL has been doing in the past. Not a whole team, i dont think it will be a huge issue

I'm curious about how teams qualified for 2018 and in previous years.

Teams take the majority of their team unless theres injuries

But yes, next year should be interesting. Lots of changes on the soccer horizon...
