Blah blah blah clubs and the levels are expensive but the deal breaker is the coach at U6-U14, no? Let me help you, YES! That is all, carry on.

The coach is the most important thing all the way through youth soccer really. A great coach who your child has a good relationship with is far more important than club or league.
Great players grow in every club and in every league. They don't grow for every coach.
The first time anything becomes more important than the coach is in college where the school has to come first.

COACH! COACH! COACH!
A good coach is a teacher, mentor, drill sergeant, and authority figure who can instill love of the game, respect for the players and officials, and a strong desire to always be better! If you find one in your child's life you are blessed.

Coach until you hit top level where you get to college or pros. Then level matters. Until then - all about skills. And then - more skills and teaching. Forget about about league, game results, club name. Agree with this, but it can definitely help to get to college or pro level if you play in a high league (which often means you already have the skills).

A good coach (master gardener) can't turn a Tulip into a rose. He can make it a healthy Tulip, but it's still not a rose.
Coaches are important below u14, after that, you're kid has to play the highest level he/she can to become better and grow as a player. A great coach at u14, and kid playing in Classic 3 with other Classic 3 players may improve but will never reach her/his potential unless they are challenged by other Great players. Playing with the best will challenge you more than a coach will at upper levels.
Also, all great players have outside trainers to offset coaches.

You're simply wrong at least as far as your strained analogy goes. A great coach can take a player everyone thinks is a tulip and a few years later everyone knows she's a rose. Can't tell you how many kids I've seen over the years who were written off, found a good coach who believed in them, and ended up better than many of the born roses. Also, all great players don't have outside trainers. Some do, some don't. Level of competition matters, but only insofar that it is as extreme as the difference between DA and Classic 3. A good player in a good team with a good coach turns out fine, even if they only play god-forbid something like RPL
