Top 50 Coaches in 50 YearsWhat are your thoughts, agree, disagree??? Since the founding of the Georgia State Soccer Association in 1968, many talented and hardworking individuals have contributed their time and efforts to its growth and the development of soccer in the state of Georgia. Congratulations to the following people for being selected as part of our Top 50 Coaches in 50 Years:

Seems political list to me. Some are very good coaches others very questionable. They also left out several .

Many well-known and respected coaches...congratulations to all! Not sure other respondent who said it's political knows every coach on the list.

Pretty honest opinion. If you knew some of the coaches then you would understand my comment. Plus if you knew other coaches like I do then you would understand my political comment.
Is it me or people in feelings way too much.

No many on this list as well...all deserving of the recognition. I agree "some" are in their feelings...

What a joke of a list. All politics and popularity contest. Very comparable to a HS homecoming King and Queen vote.

Anyone care to do a breakdown by club? Just curiosity. And how many are directors? 🤔
I don't know a lot of them so I will start with what I know. And does anyone know how they came up with it? Who voted?

One of the listed coaches is the primary reason my kid quit the sport. Huge jerk. Blew off our parent meeting. Gave zero sh*ts when seriously injured (broken bone) during a game. Mostly played top players, even during practice scrimmages. My kid sat out a lot, at games AND AT PRACTICE!
And yes, we attended and were on time to every practice and every game for most of the season. Near the end we started skipping because it sucked. My kid dreaded it, and we became unwilling to travel for 20 minutes of play.
My kid loved the sport for 8 years. Then one year with Coach Kill-All-Soccer-Joy destroyed the passion, ruined the confidence, and crushed the enjoyment. And it ruined the club in our eyes, where previously we were supporters (multiple years as Team Mgr, plus other volunteering).

Graham Tutt is retired??? Anyway, well deserved...
I had him as a coach growing up in the 80's. He was iconic in the Cobb soccer scene back in the day. I also played out of his indoor facility when indoor was just getting started, as well as playing some games over at Mike Balson's indoor place.

There are few coaches that I've ONLY heard good things about, usually it's some good/some bad. Coaches click with certain kids.. what works for some often doesn't for others. I know a bunch of coaches on this list, but really only have direct experience with two. One is amazing, the other - I hope that nobody I like ever has to deal with him.

It’s too bad there weren’t more female coaches shaping the soccer landscape over the last 50-years. Hopefully that changes over the next 50.

Don't know how Brian Moore got left out. Like him or not, he did a great job when he found his type of players. I would have never let my daughter play for him (she did play for Troy and Steve M), but I do have a lot of respect for Brian as a coach.

There were, but the politics left them off because they never got top teams or never got to advance up the coaching tree do to sexism and just the old boys club.

At least they got it right with Sharon Loughran (though her last name is spelled incorrectly on the list)! She has been one of the best (club and high school)!

I was surprised that he was left off the list as well. My daughter did play for him and loved him as a coach. Did he get on her from time-to-time - sure, just like everyone else on the team. Was he arrogant - sure, just like lots of people with a big ego. But he also helped her to become a much better player and prepared her well for what she faced playing in college. But I understand that not everyone (maybe most people) agrees with my assessment.

We are on a roll olderthandirt. I 100% agree with your statement about Brian. Really good trainer, too.

Very few that I know on this list are excellent "coaches". They may be great trainers but lack the people skills to be great coaches. Most of the great coaches seem to fly under the radar.

Love Sharon but wasn't sure what club she is with now. She retired from HS Soccer coaching and is coaching swimming (her sport) at a private school now. Not at any club snymore. Great coach and person. Glad to see her on this list

Point taken. However he is not the head coach. And given the recruiting cycle of women's soccer this is the put up or get fone year for that entire staff.
