So I am a bit confused after this SSA and CF alliance as to what the combined SSA teams are going to do. Can an SSA parent please explain what the plans are? In particular, with the new leagues and ECNL. Are the top teams at SSA (i.e. Elite) going to play BOTH ECNL and NPL for the U13 and U14 age groups where they are supposedly taking over CF's "second" ECNL slot? Or will some of the SSA Elite girls play on that ECNL team with other CF players and thus make it a combined team of SSA and CF players who also play in different leagues (SSA in NPL and CF in SCCL)? Or will SSA Premier play in NPL while SSA Elite plays only ECNL and some other SSA team play SCCL?
This whole thing sounds confusing. I am just trying to see how the whole SSA Elite team could simultaneously play ECNL and NPL. The schedules must conflict at times. It would be impossible for them not to conflict with the expanded NPL schedule plus all of those ECNL games.
The other alliances we have seen publicly and into play this far have been club passing players around and also don't have ECNL to contend with. I am just curious if SSA has explained it to parents.

What I understand is that teams don’t move clubs, SSA doesn’t get a league slot from CF, or another way to put it - SSA didn’t earn new league status because it is in an alliance with CF. SSA can now say to its younger boys that play DA at SSA that there’s a path to DA after U14. SSA and CF, as they did this year, holds an ID session and both clubs confer on what’s best for that boy. If you’re an SSA girl, same deal with regards to ECNL. This is a bit more of a guided approach then a SSA player just going to CF tryouts in a vacuum. CF benefits because SSA is in part directing players to CF.

One Concorde actually did explain there would be only one Ecnl spot for 06 and 05 age groups. “Concorde Fire is also excited to announce that we will field two ECNL teams in the U15, U16, U17 and U18 age groups for the 2018-2019 season. There will continue to be one team in the U13 and U14 age groups.”

SSA 05 and 06 Girls 1st - ECNL only 2nd - NPL 3rd - SCCL 4th on - Athena
The teams playing ECNL will be utilizing one of Concorde's two spots. What this looks like is still to be determined. Do they wear Concorde uniforms??? Do they even have a Concorde name??? But it will be the complete SSA teams with their own coaches and practice locations. Run entirely separate from Concorde. No mixing of girls from Concorde.
This is what was conveyed to the players and parents in the SSA 05 and 06 girls age groups. Repeatedly before, during, and after tryouts.
Infoguy is correct that there really isn't anything official laid out for the boys and girls in other age groups other than "a pathway for players" so far.
SSA 04 and Older Girls 1st - NPL 2nd - SCCL 3rd on - Athena
SSA 05, 06, and 07 Boys 1st - SSA DA 2nd - NPL 3rd - SCCL 4th on - Classic
SSA 04 and Older Boys 1st - NPL 2nd - SCCL 3rd on - Classic

So Concorde hasn't explained it either? Did they assign two ECNL teams for 05 and 06 or just one? One This is how it was explained to me. ECNL required that the 06 & 05 ECNl teams at CF have 2 teams slots as well. Originally, it was U15+. But ECNL came back around and said no, it has to be all ECNL age groups. So now SSA came along, they had their needs because they were losing girls and we had ours. So in regard to 05 & 06, CF has 1 ECNL slot and SSA has the other. They handed them the whole slot, they pick the team as they so choose. A SSA 05 or 06 girls is free to come to a CF tryout if they so choose and she is fair game, but for all intense purposes, if you are at SSA and you make the team you are on ECNL. Now for the u15+, its all one big tryout, you have to make either 2 slots of ECNL teams available and that's for ANY girl. Make sense?

My understanding was what infoguy said...that it allows for player passing and an easier (already able to be identified) path for the players to switch later.

Why in the world would Ssa allow a whole team to switch clubs?! And why would CF give up an entire slot to another club?

I did hear that CFN 06 top team wanted the encl slot, but was offered the sccl slot instead. Ecnl went to CF central and Sccl went to the second central team after cfn turned it down. If Concorde had two Ecnl slots the second team would have been CF north.

So, this is why I posted this thread. Even parents at CF and SSA are confused about this. While the 05 and 06 parents were supposedly repeatedly "told this before, during and after tryouts" why does no one else know and why has it not been made public with an announcement by either club?? If parents at SSA in other age groups are not aware and there has been no announcement, why?? This is very weird to me. SSA should have told their entire club with an email or announcement!! What if you have a kid playing on 06 at another branch who is good enough to play ECNL at 05 or 06 but you did not know this was an option? What if you are an 05 that is playing up on an 04 team at another branch and you would have loved to play 05 ECNL? This should have been made CLEAR and OFFICIAL to ALL SSA and CF parents if this situation is actually fact. As it stands it seems shady to me.

I have no idea what the powers that be agreed on or didn't agree on or why the announcements have been limited at best. I agree with oraclesfriend on that front for sure. I don't claim to be in the know. The original post asked for an SSA parent perspective. I answered with that perspective. This is what the 05 and 06 SSA girls age groups were told. That's all I know. It sounds like msundrcvr is at Concorde and he/she seems to be under the same assumption. I do feel that any 05 or 06 girl that attended club wide SSA tryouts was aware though. Players from all locations have always had a chance to tryout for the top team at SSA. They start mixing locations and creating an elite pool at U11.

I was just saying that it is ALWAYS better to make decisions when you have information. If there was someone that wanted to tryout for ECNL and had a preference for SSA for some reason (past good experience, heard about a good coach) but did not know it was an option so chose to tryout at Tophat or CF instead that is unfortunate for that person, but also for SSA. To be clear, my kids are not in that situation. We live far from SSA and have plenty of good options nearer. I am just saying that an announcement would have been better for both SSA and the players.

Unfortunately, SSA 04 DA Boys were dismantled for 2018/2019 season. The announcement for the Concorde merger came way too late. The club announced that it was not getting DA for the older age groups and the merger until the last few weeks of the season. Of course parents were already planning (Thanks to this Forum!)! They announced the merger and it threw everyone a curve ball. Most were already trying out for UFA. So the merger allowed an “ID Session” day before Concorde DA tryouts. After that, a few maybe 4 or 5 players were offered spots for Concorde but still others wanted to tryout for UFA. So, SSA 04’s (from the DA team) scrambled and 4 or 5 players joined Concorde and 5 or 6 joined UFA, some DA some ECNL some NPL but SSA ended up with only 4 returning players. 2 joined NASA ECNL which has almost all returning DA players. Look for U15 NASA ECNL for 2018/2019 season as Champions. I called it so this is the post 🤪😜😁😃
In CONCLUSION, Last minute announcements didn’t help SSA for this coming season 04 Boys. SSA will need to rethink and renegotiate the terms. Girls side as well!!!

However, if SSA girls at certain ages were given an entire slot, then I would say it resembles more of a merger tbh. If SSA coaches were telling certain girl age groups that they are ECNL, I sure hope that's the case for the kids' sake. But again, what I was told differs from what others at SSA were told about the nature of this "alliance".

IF ACCURATE AS INTERPRETED BY SSA PARENTS OF THESE GIRLS: It's a win for the SSA players of course, and SSA in terms of not losing players and $ ... I agree. But SSA as a club doesn't get ECNL technically. CF's win is it can brag about SSA's achievements, because ECNL is theirs. Yes, SSA will continue to practice on its own fields. Not sure if other CF teams will do so - depends whether their teams want to pay for other fields (they could've always done so).
