Thanks for posting... This is a great article. While I am not necessarily rooting for Mexico (rivalry and all), I do think they should be the proper credit if they are able to advance out of the group stage. Also I agree youth soccer teams should embrace diversity to help build the best teams possible.

When they make the finals or win the world cup, they will be taken more seriously. They're typically a strong team for CONCACAF...but that's not always saying much. They've hit the round of 8 a couple times. A ways to go before they're legitimized, a 1-0 upset of Germany in Group stage does not a world cup contender make.

They got a lot of help from the ref today. Second goal started with a clear foul.

Sweden 3-0 Mexico. Germany 0-1 South Korea. Time for US to start taking Sweden seriously. Too much was made of the win over an apparently weaker-than-normal German team. Mexico absolutely HAMMERED by a decent Swedish team. Congrats to Mexico for making it past the group stage for the 7th straight time. Germany missed like 50 shots against Korea.

Also, cannot stand Jorge Perez-Navarro that Fox has announcing for Mexico. I cannot deal with that amount of homer-ism in an announcer, especially one who seems so non-knowledgeable on soccer. I do like Mariano Trujillo though. Its almost palpable how much Trujillo disdains everything Perez-Navarro says. You can hear the cringe factor.

As a Swede - the debate in this country is somewhat humorous. Mexico has a fine team. But they couldn’t handle a well organized European team with average skill and many journeymen players. Happened many times before as well. And same for US teams. We have some ways to go around here. We’ll get there eventually, but will take a good while. Sounds right. Belgium and probably Croatia have been the most consistent teams so far.

They were on fire the first half, but the 2nd half was ALL Brazil.
