Anyone looked into the new Publix Atlanta Cup, seems to have an interesting new format with teams playing in regions and then the winners playing in a champions bracket.
Anyone know what clubs will be participating and the quality of teams that will be there?
The competition and quality of teams that were sent to Lovejoy the last few years have not been impressive, wondering if the new format will improve that.

We played in it one year and while the competition wasn’t horrible, we had to almost drive to Alabama to play our games. Wasn’t a fun way to spend Labor Day weekend.

Will never play in a GA Soccer run tournament again....not a fan. This event is no longer run by Georgia Soccer, there is some type of hosting partnership between a few local clubs. I am not sure if that will be a good thing, but I assume judging by past experiences, it can't be a bad thing.

From the website it sounds interesting the changes they are making. No real confirmation the level will get stronger but seems a nice twist to regular tournaments and it may limit travel over Labor Day which I would like. Any idea who the four clubs reciprocals are?
WHAT'S NEW FOR 2018!
LICENSE AGREEMENT In 2017 Georgia Soccer agreed to license the Atlanta Cup to local teams. Upon several bids GYSA chose a combined bid from Smyrna SC, TYSA, Lanier Sharks and AFC Lightning. The 2018 Edition of The Publix Atlanta Cup brings together four soccer clubs in Georgia who will look to build on the traditions of the Publix Atlanta Cup and return it to its full glory as one of the top tournaments in the county. Our goal is to eventually get the tournament back up to a 600 – 800 team event. Each location will be registering a large number of teams who will be participating in the event, will bring reciprical agreements, have fantastic facilities and over 50+ combined years experience of running tournaments of their own. We are excited to become partners with GA Soccer in hosting the Atlanta Publix Cup. NEW ATLCUP CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION Upon registration teams have the ability to chose to participate in the ATLCUP Championship (recommended for Classic I, RPL, ECNL and DA Level of Teams). Upon selection for this event teams will participate in their local NSEW Regional Tournament as normal. Winners of the NSEW Regional Tournament will progress to the ATL Championship where Semi Finals and Finals will be played at CHOA Training Ground, Silverbacks Park or LakePoint Sports Complex. REBRANDED DIVISIONS On top of the Championship Division teams can chose to participate in our REGIONAL DIVISIONS; Piedmont, Peachtree, or Centenial Divisions. These Divisions will only be available Regionally and will end on Sunday afternoon. COACHING SUPPORT We are coaches too. We understand the past issues with coaching conflicts. With our NEW Regional Divisions we guarantee coaches will be able to register two teams (same location) and they will be able to make all their group games. We will even try to schedule games so that predicted Semi Finals and Final Times don't conflict. ** We may even make it work for three teams but please contact staff before doing so. ** ATHLETES VILLAGE Main hotel to host Players Party, daily events and competitions. INTERACTIVE EVENT We are working pulling off an interactive FIFA 18 event. Details will follow shortly. DAILY EXCURSIONS Travelling from out of state? We can put together your perfect tour of Atlanta, including attractions like Atlanta United and/or Atlanta Braves games, Georgia Aquarium, Stone Mountain, Six Flags, etc.

Best tourney my kids have ever played in was the telemundo one about 3 years ago in June. Coke was sponsor and throughout the entire weekend, had free cokes. Powerade stations were also set up across the park. Fields sucked but nobody cared.
Every team that made the finals got free telemundo kits to wear in the game. oh yea, Carlos Valderrama was there also.

I like that it’s hosted by clubs rather than GA Soccer. They’re likely to put most or all of their teams in the tournament. I also like that it’s four clubs that are relatively far apart. I’m not sure every age group would have a large enough number of teams to need four locations but letting teams choose from at least a couple locations would help to keep everyone closer to home.
