In our several years of ODP play, our player found the coaching helped develop them. They also found region camp to be a great experience.
Be prepared for some criticism of the program from the other alphabet program parents. Your player will get out of the program what they put into it. That statement is true of any activity they choose to participate in.

Do it for a year or two. The training is solid and the coaching is usually good. It also can lead to the Alabama regional camp as well as the ODP showcase in December and they do an oversees tournament or two. So, it gives some training and further exposure as college coaches attend the regional and international events (usually they are coaching the latter). If your kid is playing ECNL level (DA level kids can't play now), I think the returns diminish by u15 and definitely U16.

How is it on the girls side as far as training/coaching ? 05 group The 2016-2017 year for 05 got mostly good reviews from kids and parents. 2017-2018 I heard mostly bad reviews from 05 Girls parents. Said there was no coaching at all. The kids scrimmaged each other all of the time with no feedback or instruction. I think there is still value for many kids though. It helps to recognize the talent. If you get invited to region camp, that helps even more and if you are selected for region team that is even more beneficial. The value of the COACHING depends on who you get. There is still value in training with kids with a higher talent level than your team as a whole...can't switch off for a moment and still get away with it.

Agree, You get out of ODP what you put into it. Also, Touches on the Ball is never a bad thing, even if you're just kicking it against the wall.

Actually, there is one more reason to do it which is a resume builder. When your kid plays higher level and goes to showcases, their team will pass out a profile sheet to the college coaches identifying each kid on the team and quick highlights. ODP is a differentiater. If a coach is scanning the profile sheet, the ODP will give a kid added credibility.

ODP provides a clear developmental training program without pressures of competition especially regarding winning at all costs. ODP platform is for players below the DA meaning ECNL, National League and Athena if a player wants to be involved in good additional state pool training. Progressing to the region camp, region pool/team selection is regarded a fine achievement. I've heard nothing but positive things from parents about the 05 Girls coaching environment.

I think ODP is great for all of the reasons you have stated. I have heard only negative things from 05 girls about it this past year and only good things from many of those same girls from the year before...all depends on the coach. Of those girls, several are going to be DA this fall but others will be new Piedmont League and NPL and ECNL. Same answers from parents of the kids at all of these levels. So I don't think it was a quality player issue...just a level of interest from the coach this year was lacking according to the kids.

Thank you for agreeing with my post information. I don't agree with you though regarding 2017/18. You're clearly playing the comparison game card which is stupid, unfair and it's hard to find rationality behind your post. Comparing ODP age groups year to year is a mistake since the 2016/17 05 pool roster was significantly different from the 2017/18 roster. In fact, a significant amount of kids from 2016/17 moved away from ODP completely, opted to play DA which happens. In fact 75% of last seasons 05 Girls 2016/17 roster 9 players who made 2016/17 region pool for GA didn't return to state ODP in 2017/18 not because of the previous experience or the coach but because they decided to opt to play DA for the 2017/18 season which makes them ineligible for ODP. I do know, 4 players from the 2017/18 roster have confirmed to take up DA spots for next season which also happens. As I've said before players will come and go for DA year after year and rosters will differ from year to year so the comparison game is a stupid game. Feedback and performance 05 results at region camp was positive teams went 4-1-1 Coached by Matt Holmes and Charlie Morgan. My daughter enjoyed the season, learnt a lot from both coaches, felt she improved so a good experience. Currenty, she plays on an ECNL team. I wish her club coach was as positive and patient as both 05 Girls ODP coaches.

Agree with soccerdad80 post you can't compare seasons especially when rosters change year to year. Nice try in trying to blame the coaches so stop. Both coaches are experienced. My daughter enjoyed the experience.

Agree with soccerdad80 post you can't compare seasons especially when rosters change year to year. Nice try in trying to blame the coaches so stop. Both coaches are experienced. My daughter enjoyed the experience. I am just quoting a couple of VERY good friends whose girls played BOTH years. Same kids, both years. And did not enjoy this year. Personally I think it is a very personal opinion. I think ODP is a great program. I am not saying that it is not. I am just saying that one should not judge the program as a whole based on the experience of a few people in one season. I AM NOT TRYING TO TRASH THE COACHES. I am just saying that IF you hear bad things from people make sure you don't blame the program as worthless (which has been happening over the past year on the this forum). I think you are all taking this out of context as can happen with a written word. Btw this was discussing 05 girls and there were only 6 05 girls playing full time DA across all clubs this year so there was not a large turnover in ODP due to DA last year. There will be this year. That does not diminish the purpose of the program or how it can benefit players. This section of my posts was trying to address not just the original question but also the flack that ODP has been taking and DEFEND it. As for coaches, I have yet to come across ANY coach who was universally liked and spoken highly of by all parents and players. That does not mean they are a bad coach necessarily that a few people were not fans. People have different things they are looking for in a coach and a training program. SO, CHILL OUT!

ODP used to be great, with the addition of ECNL it started to decline at older ages and now with the addition of DA its declining at earlier ages.
Clubs just dont encourage it like they used to and its lost its glimmer.

So gotta agree with oraclesfriend about coach’s. Everyone has their own opinion about them. So one of those coaches I’ve worked with and he is 50/50 on being a good coach. I’m sure there are a lot of former players that liked him, but I’ve known a lot that can’t stand him and pushed them to the point of nearly quitting or leaving their old club.
It would be nice though to see more coaches involved in ODP then the same old same ones. It’s a great program and just needs some new blood to revitalize it.

I've enjoyed the constructive soccer posts which has been informative for me. My daughter had a blast at 05 region camp and thankful for the experience. I agree you can't universally like every aspect of every program. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But hold on, "I've worked with one of them", "friends of mine said this said that", "I used to work with one of them", "some liked him" and "some haven't" just to me, a clear indication you're on a private sad agenda, hope it gets better for you.

Nothing says 'clear agenda' like 'some liked him, some didn't'.. (/s if necessary)
Apparently having a differing opinion is now a crusade.
