ECNL won 3 of 4 age groups and finished second in 4th age group. By your logic, these results would indicate they are a stronger league.

"necessarily..."
.750 winning percentage says it all...
End of story!

ECNL won 3 of 4 age groups and finished second in 4th age group. By your logic, these results would indicate they are a stronger league. Of the 16 teams listed playing in the championship games and third place games, 8 were ECNL teams and 8 were NPL teams. In the U16 age group 3 of the 4 teams were NPL. I think at the moment it looks pretty even. You cannot make an assumption that based on the final game alone that one team or league is better than another. I have seen teams beat a team 4-0 on one day and lose the next time 4-0. The overall body of work is what matters. They look even overall. That being said this is the first year of boys ECNL so it may get better than NPL with time.

8 and 8 is more of an indication of how the games were set up as opposed to the league. And again 3 of 4 champions and finalist in other age were ECNL. Your last statement referencing ECNL being in year one is flawed simply by looking at the results.

Went back and read full article. 8 teams from each division received a spot based on their finish in their division vs. based on entering a tournament and these were the final 16 teams.

Went back and read full article. 8 teams from each division received a spot based on their finish in their division vs. based on entering a tournament and these were the final 16 teams. The 8v8 thing I am referring to is the final 4 teams from each of the 4 age groups. The champion of each division was sent to an East coast qualifier or a West Coast qualifier. Then they played each other to qualify for the finals (final 4 teams from each of the four age groups), much like Regional Champs qualify for the National Championship in US youth soccer. That is why U16 had only 1 ECNL team and another age group had only 1 NPL team. The final four played a semifinal game (win and you play the final, lose and you play the third place game). My point was the an equal number of NPL and ECNL teams QUALIFIED for ENPL finals tournament. Also my last statement wasn't "flawed." How is flawed to say that ECNL may become better than NPL with time. They are a new league and have some clout from the girls side. Even if you are suggesting that they are better now (as you are) if doesn't make my statement false.
