Getting details of the pre-season meetings held by TA at AU with the players and parents. Three new coaches coming on for the U13s, U16s, U17s. TA as you all may already know is stepping down as a coach and will now do spot training and more management of the Academy and work more with the migration of players to the USL Atlanta United 2
Other Highlights:
- More out of town/state/country tournaments and games likely in the spring; - Less players taken on the older teams since AU intends on playing capable players up; - Teams will now participating in Badminton, Jujitsu or Yoga in the fall/spring, twice a month; - TA reiterated the commitment of players to AU especially with the new costs per player AU is investing($18,000); - Less Rondos at start of practice, more technical stations and technical testing, need better technical players overall;

So I guess the rumors of not having a stand-alone 03 team turned out to be untrue? Is that team still going to play in the adult amateur leagues?

TA is still gonna be coaching, just not focused on an entire team. I've witnessed his correcting of players technique from Afar that was spot on. So, in reality, he will be coaching the entire group of youngsters as he's walking through their sessions. He will began to fulfill a true Director's role.

I also haven't heard much from last years 02 group that played in the mens' league. Wonder how it went for them (the ones that didn't get time with the u17 team). How many were retained this year? Did they enjoy the year? Was it a positive experience?

TA had mentioned taking teams out of town/state to get stronger challenges in the Spring, but for the Fall, I only know of the U15s going to LA later this month and the U17s going to play Liga MX teams in Mexico.

The older boys U15 will be in Cali at UCLA playing against Sporting KC, LAFC, and Tijuana for Preseason. They also will be doing the GA Cup in October.
Futsal Gawdess mentioned that "Less players taken on the older teams since AU intends on player capable players up". I think we will see lots of movement in the system. U15's will play U16, U16 into 17s etc..
I think the 04's only took news 2 players.

I am shocked that AU hired OJ. I feel sorry for parents and players who get on his bad side. Hopefully, with TA now officially not carrying a team, he will have the opportunity to keep an eye on things and Coach the Coach if need be. Plus the parents of players at AU are not wilting flowers, if he is less than, TA will hear about it. Why do you think Coach Kris from last season is no longer on staff(keep in mind, his U13 team from last year went through the regular season undefeated). In other news, I hear the current U13s(2006s) will be playing in the NASA Tophat Boys Classic, but in the U14 top bracket. Schedule - AU U13 Nasa Tophat ScheduleAlso this Saturday, some of the younger AU teams will be scrimmaging Nashville United at the training grounds. Followed the next week by a friendly scrimmage at Fowler against UFA.

I thought is was against federal law for a DA team to play 2 full games in one day? Was AU given a pass by the man?

I think it is part of the mandate by US Soccer to allow for more "meaningful" games. Plus it is technically within the realm of "pre-season" Finally, you can play more than one game a day as long as it is not against other DA teams. Unless, it is the showcase run by US Soccer, then it is okay, but they reduce the game times to compensate.

Sounds like a bunch of BS, typical US soccer making up rules - love the fact that its ok, as long as its not against another DA team.....

Running with the ball is part of the new technical testing. Oh my, here we go. I've been telling my kids this for years without technical testing. Just asked them to watch Messi, Ronaldo, Iniesta and now Neymar / Mbappe how they run (close to full speed) with the ball at their feet or rolling it, it's amazing to watch. It's a start, I hope they include multiple first touch tests from different balls being received(To me this is critical), Coerver Dribbling and rolling the ball, push/pulls etc, and the kicker, when they are finished with their dominant foot, redo the testing with their weaker foot. I just like the idea of having competition and benchmarks in training. I assume, they will re-run these assessments periodically to assess improvements.
We've been at clubs before that try to institute assessments, but the never complete them. They maybe would do a pre-assessment but then never did any other measurements or assessments.
