This just further highlights the leadership and philosophy differences between ECNL/ US Club Soccer and the USSFs approach. I just read earlier in the week Carlos Cordeiro’s creation of a “task force to address youth soccer issues”. The USSF is a very bureaucratic organization. Rigid, inflexible, and impersonal at its core.

Christian Lavers also is a little naive about the pay to play problem.

Christian Lavers also is a little naive about the pay to play problem. I disagree. I think he understands the issues perfectly. He also understands that USSF/SUM/MLS are standing in the way and essentially providing cover for clubs who do not want to make such payments. Letting the supposedly Players Association opposition help dictate decision-making on this issue is a classic example of letting the lunatics run the asylum. I also do not understand why FIFA does not step in and tell USSF/MLS they have to both (i) provide solidarity payments and (ii) have pro/rel.

I agree he understands about it, but doesn’t perceive it as a problem. At most clubs financial assistance does not cover travel expenses etc. He also is more used to the girls - where for various reasons money never seems to be a big issue as it is with the boys.
