What is the rule for hydration breaks? At the SSA tournament Sunday it was 90 degree with no clouds. Our team had one sub and played two games. No hydration breaks where called in either game.

I thought it was 85 degrees mandatory although I may wrong. Sounds like someone made a gross incorrect decision. Mudcreek had water breaks for all midday and evening games.

We were at Cartersville Soccer Fields for the SSA tournament Saturday and played at 12:30pm and 5:15pm. We had hydration breaks in both those games. Sounds like the referee goofed.

I believe it depends what organization governs the game.

As a ref this weekend, there was no clear directive until mid-day Saturday. Although by mid-day Sunday the ref crews need the breaks as much as the players... One negative of turf is that it just keeps getting hotter as the day progresses. It was my first time working long hot days on the turf and I was dragging badly the last few games - nothing left in the tank. And I do half-marathons for fun...

Just want to point out that the rules should also be adjusted for the youngest age groups as small (pre-adolescent) children do not sweat as efficiently as older children and adults and thus are at higher risk for heart illness. At Braly we got zero water breaks for mid-afternoon or evening games and saw no other teams get them either. Neither day. None of the three games. Technically if you look at some rules humidity is also factored in so even 83 degrees with high humidity should force a water break.

MLS rule is 89 degrees for mandatory water breaks, FIFA was ordered via court order to give water breaks in Brazil during the 2014 WC at 90 degrees plus.

MLS rule is 89 degrees for mandatory water breaks, FIFA was ordered via court order to give water breaks in Brazil during the 2014 WC at 90 degrees plus. This is inadequate for children. Georgia High schools are required to give water breaks to adolescents if wet bulb globe temperature exceeds 82 degrees (with the humidity this weekend that was a given by about noon). If high school age kids are required to have breaks and they sweat like adults why should 7-10 year olds not get a break.

Hopefully they'll have some water breaks at the AFC tourney this weekend. Several teams are scheduled to play back to back games and one that I saw was scheduled to play 3 games back to back. I'm hoping that's being fixed since the schedules were taken back offline.

Multiple games in a day are bad for humans. But profits have to be made, so who cares right?

No water breaks at the Nike Select Cup either. Its up to each tournament director to decide to do it or not.
If you do it for one team then you have to do it across the board for the whole venue

We were at the Concorde Tournament this past weekend and we did not have one. I asked the ref during the game and he thought it would be a good idea but he was not told by the tournament directors. He did ask the coaches during half time. Our coach wanted one and the other coach did not so we did not have one. I think from a liability purposes, it is smart to have one - it is not worth it!!! For most kids, these tournaments are their first games on the season. They are not used to playing two games during the hot humid summer weather. Please be smart about this!!!

Especially at older age groups when playing 2 games a day almost never happens anymore.

We were at Tramore for the SSA one on Sunday and did have them, maybe the ref screwed up? It was way too hot to not have them, ugh.
