Who looked like a mess at tryouts?

Great start for the SSA 05 Boys - took care of QCM on Saturday and followed that up with another win Sunday while that same QCM team beat AU 2-1 Sunday. I had heard they looked a mess at tryouts - look like the team to beat to me. SSA 05 DA does look like the team to beat so far with 2 games into the season. They have started the season out of the gate with flying colors. If I remember correctly, they did the same thing last year, especially in the fall, where they were undefeated in the fall. Not surprised since they have a very stout back line that was only strengthened this off season. That makes it very difficult to score on them. Having said that, it was interesting to watch the AU 05 DA team take its first regular season loss. Went with siblings to watch their U13s play and instead I watched the U14s play. The game against the old ISL now QCM team was a thing of beauty to watch. Prior to the lightning delay, I would put both teams up against any youth club, it was well coached beautiful footy. In speaking with some of parents on the AU side, AU was without their two man-child strikers(injury). QCM was primed for this game. They apparently had this date circled on their schedule and where working to avenge last season. The general consensus was the QCM boys where so focused on AU, they over looked SSA and paid dearly for it on Saturday with a 3 zip shutout. That only made QCM hungrier for the Sunday showdown. My synopsis of the game is this. The former #9 and #10 are still big and are still bullies on the pitch. I believe they now wear 81/82. They used size to dominate in the midfield, thereby dismissing all challengers till they got to AU's backline. QCM had 5 players bigger than the biggest AU player alone. AU was lucky to get out of there with a 2-1 loss. AU needs their big guns up front and may need to rethink using a smaller midfield line up. AU did not come to win, QCM did. Now AU has been punched in the mouth, how will they react and respond. There were a whole lot of unhappy looking parents and players coming off of the pitch Sunday evening. Kudos to QCM, I believe they come into town this weekend to take on NASA and CF. Curious to see if they ride the wave of giving AU its first loss to another set of victories. Having said that, I think this is a wake up call for the AU players and the powers that be. They made one change based on them going undefeated in league play. In my opinion I think there are better midfielders locally who are faster, stronger and can play box 2 box. Not trying to disparage the players, but you have to ask yourself, you have the pick of the litter. Why not use that to your benefit. The goal I thought was to produce home grown players we can feel are part and belong to our community(Ex: Carleton/Bello)

Not sure if the moth comment was an inverted dig or not, but I will take it. I do like to follow the AU youth academy teams. I have family on the 04s and the 06s. Come to think of it, as a fangirl, I do like to "follow" the good looking players on the first team like my Miggy. In my opinion I believe you are wrong in characterizing the "man-child" strikers as not having had any success. I also firmly believe the AU 05 team has the best defense in the land with CF and SSA coming in a distant 2nd/3rd. Now that could be construed as an opinion but that is fact. Or as @soccerhouse might say with the pyramid, The Numbers Don't Lie(TNDL). So CF still have 4 players that can't pass the Beep Test aka Pacer Test. Fitness Standards LOL. Seriously, if you are supposedly a DA caliber player, you should be able to pass that test, if not you really do need to find another sport. One thing I love about accounting is my trust in numbers. Fact, is this AU team scored 147 goals last season and the two strikers accounted for 50, with one being out for almost two and a half months. That is a third of all goals scored. I would call that a success. Secondly, my comment about the defense is proven in the numbers below. This AU team let in 9 goals over the course of almost 30 games. If that is your version of ordinary, I give you credit for having extremely high standards. I for one come from an environment whereby you root for the success of your local pro club/team. Their success leads to better opportunities for our collective soccer loving kids. I know they raise the standards of all the other teams, because the other local clubs now push themselves to be better and constantly measure their success against the top of the pyramid(TPDL). I know CF/SSA/UFA made real changes based on AU, even though my beloved UFA team looks like they did a poor job in their final decisions. Atlanta United GF - 147 GA - 9 Concorde Fire GF - 60 GA - 32 Souther Soccer Academy GF - 65 GA - 42 Did I mention TNDL

So my question is where did you find the metrics, especially the attacks defended? Who keeps theses measurements and how do you get to view them?

Not sure if it was because of the loss or it was already on the books, but TA will be handling training this week for the 05s at AU. No one is sure yet if that will be the entire week or not. He believes their practices have been lax. TA has been hanging out more at training sessions to get a first hand and has been having conversations with parents on the sideline. One of the things he reiterated was his intent on having certain boys play up across the board, starting with the U19s in the USL and on and on down to the U13s all playing up. He claims not to be as concerned about the wins and losses, but is more focused on developing the players to be ready to ball at that next level. He also intimated that if players think they can rest on their laurels they may not even make it pass the fall season. Interesting times at AU for sure.
