I played high school soccer in the late 80’s. Attended the WC in Italy and USA. Lifelong soccer first fan. AU season ticket holder but totally conflicted because I honestly believe MLS is holding us back. There are many voices that (to me) explain things pretty well, and this is one who has created a series of videos to make the case that we’re doing it wrong: twitter.com/danielworkmanWho do you follow?

Didn't read down very far, but got to the bit about stadium size and clubs. US Soccer has something of a minor league system. No we're don't have promotion/relegation, but I don't think anyone would argue that the US has the best pro leagues at nearly every other sport.
Once US soccer is paying better than European soccer, we could eclipse them. You need a fanbase for that however, it's slowly growing.

I think Workman helped run Eric’s USSF candidacy but I don’t know about an ongoing project - maybe it’s the video series.
American sports leagues have huge values because of TV money, something soccer hasn’t figured out.
And “something of a minor league system” is a stretch.

Yea, saw his tease of a tweet yesterday, I like Wynalda. honest, rash and would have made a difference.
