September 17, 2018 Furman Soccer Visits Instate Rival Clemson On Tuesday Greenville, S.C. -- The Furman men’s soccer team will look to make it back-to-back victories over instate rivals when it travels to Historic Riggs Field in Clemson, S.C., to take on the Tigers Tuesday at 7 p.m. Furman improved to 3-3-0 on the season with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over South Carolina on Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium last Tuesday. Jack Shiels’ header in the 81st minute erased a 1-0 deficit and Emery May tallied his first goal of the season 46 seconds later to propel the Paladins to victory over the Gamecocks. Clemson enters the match at 3-2-1 on the season and also recorded a victory over the Gamecocks, a 2-0 triumph on August 31. The Tigers have been idle since a 0-0 draw at UMass on September 9. Tuesday’s match marks the 56th all-time meeting between Furman and Clemson in a series that dates back to a 1-0 Paladin victory on February 2, 1934. The Tigers hold a 40-12-3 series lead and won the last meeting in 2015 after Furman captured the previous three encounters. Furman’s 56 matches versus the Tigers are the most for the Paladins versus any opponent. The 56th renewal of the Furman-Clemson rivalry will be streamed live on the ACC Extra/ESPN3 and live statistics will be provided through StatBroadcast. Links for both are available at FurmanPaladins.com.
