Oh I think there is plenty of bad blood going on in that feud. MOBA stole a couple of coaches from SSA south location as well along with the majority of their players in that age group (can we say illegal recruiting even though it will never be proven that happened?!?).
MOBA honestly is a poacher. The "bright shining turf city on the hill". Its luster and "newness" will wear off, and then it will be like any other club where they need to produce results of training kids and wins, or people will leave them as well.
It's a shame AFC and MOBA couldn't come to an agreement to be partners. The failure to find a partner was the main reason why MOBA decided to go forward with Academy and Select teams and further dilute the talent pool on the south side.
I know the kids that left AFC and SSA are going to realize in a lot of cases the grass is not always greener, and that all clubs have their issues. I'm following a few age groups over there, and see they are not fairing to well in tournaments or Classic I.
I can't see with the amount of kids on the southside the ability of MOBA, AFC, Concorde South, and SSA South can co-exist and actually produce multiple teams that can be competitive with the Northside clubs. There just isn't enough kids for that to work.

Really happy to see the venom of the AFC and MOBA stuff seem to die down this year. There are a couple games between the clubs this weekend and I haven’t heard boo from anyone about it. A happy change from this time last year when everyone I know with a soccer playing kid was wrapped up in the drama. Best of luck to all the kids at both clubs this year. AFC Lightning moving to SCCL at end of season, done deal

Since AFC has NPL (which by all accounts is higher than SCCL), and has teams in NL, why wouldnt they apply to ECNL over SCCL?

Not a TM or coach here, but I think AFC has applied to ECNL over the years but denied by the board. Wonder who sits on that decision committee? Heard it was a GSA guy (?) that would never let it happen. Personally, I’m not sure each age group has the depth for that league play but we do have AFC players that play as discovery players at other Ecnl clubs elsewhere. For now I guess NL and NPL is the answer for AFC.

Can't remember who, but in a previous thread someone mentioned that they heard that SCCL would expand to 2 tiers... with relegation between the two. If so that would mean adding 8 more teams. Now that could be the current clubs adding another team from each club; or it could mean adding new clubs.
I support adding new clubs. Would love to see Roswell, GA Rush, AFU, Inter Atlanta, Smyrna and AFC come on board. Certain 2 more clubs could be found. This would improve the league and force some of the current clubs to put an emphasis on fielding more competitive teams. Relegation would give the teams an incentive to improve. Plus the structure to me is superior to NPL and NL:
- Play 14 games Fall and 14 Spring (Vs NPL's 11 games in Fall and 5 in Spring, NL's 11 games in fall and 5 in spring... #'s based on one age group/gender I looked up)
- Play each team twice - Home and Away
- Travel limited to one overnight trip per season (Bush and VHSC in Birmingham) and one day trip (to CESA in Spartanburg SC area)
- Viable end of season tournament with 16 teams similar to State Cup. Just hopefully rules regarding bringing in players that have not played with team, or from DA, ECNL, NPL and NL. True test of how a team has improved over the year.
- Advancement to US Club Regional and national tournament for winners.
This would be a reverse to some degree of the Alphabet Madness. Bringing more Atlanta teams back to playing each other. Not sure it will happen though.

MOBA knew he was leaving for Atlanta United and told the parents that Omar would be their coach. Not sure how much longer the MOBA cheerleaders can continue to convince parents to come to MOBA to play in weak tournaments in bottom brackets and on the academy side play a weak schedule. Was it ever said why Rakal left? Why is Tom Deaver gone? Tom did a good job at Georgia Soccer Park!

I have read your posts on various topics. I am sorry that your son is on what seems to be a very serious team in a very silly league. Expansion of sccl by adding second teams from the smaller clubs would not be make the league better because the smaller clubs tend to have top teams that are equivalent ECNL teams but lower teams that drop off dramatically. The top teams would have no competition and the lower teams would provide no competition. What you should consider is getting your team and coach to switch to a club or league that has true relegation and promotion if you think the team is truly talented. That way the sky is the limit for there success. By being stuck in the SCCL they will only end up playing down to their competition. By the way, remind the kids on your team not to "run the score up" on the other teams because it will make the Sccl look even sillier and that will reflect poorly on your team for being there. Catch 22

Ultimatedad sounds like you skipped the coffee this morning. It's ok to take a deep breath sometimes or count to 10.
Ok you feeling better now.
I share what I learn and what I think with others on the board. My thoughts, opinions, etc aren't right or wrong, they are just mine. Feel free to agree, disagree or ignore. And since you shared some additional points I'll do what one should do on the board and respond with my thoughts in a civil manner.
1. Expansion of sccl by adding second teams from the smaller clubs would not be make the league better because the smaller clubs tend to have top teams that are equivalent ECNL teams:
I agree there are some good first teams at smaller clubs like GA Rush, Roswell, Inter and more. Also some small clubs with poor first teams as well. Are some as good as ECNL Teams, probably. GA Rush lost to GSA 5-1 in first tournament I believe but the team has talent and tend to think they could better compete now that they have had some time to play. Having seen Roswell play I think they would compete as well. I'll take your word for others.
2. The top teams would have no competition and the lower teams would provide no competition.
Well they would have some but probably not as consistent as in NPL or NL at this point. But if SCCL expands that would change things. I've not heard anything yet but someone who has been credible on the board did post that they were told that SCCL would look to expand next year and possibly go to 2 tiers. So if it's going to expand why wouldn't I want to bring in some of those good small club first teams? Not saying the small clubs would or would not accept an invitation.
As someone who believes there are more than enough talented teams in Georgia to never have to leave to play quality games, I'm for anything that ensures that during league play local teams match up. There are enough out-of-state tournaments where you can play teams from different states if so desired.
And some of those second teams might find some competitive games in a SCCL tier 2.
3. What you should consider is getting your team and coach to switch to a club or league that has true relegation and promotion if you think the team is truly talented. That way the sky is the limit for there success.
Unfortunately the club, and not the team controls where they play for now. But that's not to say the issue will not be brought up and addressed. But clubs tend to do what they want and not necessarily what the parent's want. Of course the alternative is to switch clubs but already researched that and there really isn't another club within driving distance that we would be interested in, and that includes switching to an NPL team within the same club.
4. By being stuck in the SCCL they will only end up playing down to their competition.
Fortunately this is something we can address by setting up scrimmages with other teams in NL, NPL and ECNL. And hopefully get some games against other teams in tournaments.
5. By the way, remind the kids on your team not to "run the score up" on the other teams because it will make the Sccl look even sillier and that will reflect poorly on your team for being there.
Couldn't leave without trying to take a parting shot, huh. Yes I know about that message the first week of the season. We just ignored it because a) no kid is going to pass up a chance to score a goal; b) when up by a significant amount most coaches use that as an opportunity to play subs more or work on possession; c) in the end it's the other teams job to stop a team from scoring. I understand why the message was conveyed but not sure anyone paid attention
Final thought is one I made above... and just my opinion. The SCCL league structure is better than NPL, NL or Classic for the reasons stated above. But it still lacks the relegation piece. If it expands with some smaller clubs that would:
1. get more GA clubs playing each other
2. have kids driving less to play games
3. lower the overall costs to parents
That's all

At this point in our team's journey, I believe that ultimately we would be on top of Classic I in the next 1-3 years at our age group barring any defections from the team, and then because we are in that mega club have nowhere else to go since GA soccer decided to throw temper tantrum. So the mega clubs will have to do something to address the teams that are good but aren't allowed in SCCL yet and are still stuck in GA soccer Classic system with no room to ever get any higher than Classic I or Athena A.

I agree. If you are at an outlying branch and can compete you should be in. I would recommend challenging teams in the other branches. You have to show not tell the club that your team is quality. Plus it's a couple extra games.

Plus it's a couple extra games. Easier said than done in a mega club where politics is involved and the main branch is always king. There is never a chance for us to play the main branch. Even back when this team was Academy I always found it funny that we never got a shot at their main branch top teams, nor do we ever get to go to any tournaments where we were in the same division as them to get a game against them. The club controls this unfortunately not the coach. Its all politics and it is what it is. I think this happens in all mega clubs though, so no point in going somewhere else.

Not sure which club you are in. At UFA we just scrimmaged the main branches team. Scrimmaged them last year as well. But agree the politics can be a pain.

Temper tantrum??? Ga Soccer should have thrown the “Big Five” and their pathetic whiny butts completely out of Ga Soccer. No Rec, No Classic, No Athena, No State Cup or President Cup, Nothing. Those clubs are almost single handedly at fault for the issues in Ga Soccer and instead of trying to fix them they decided to blame someone else and tuck tail and run.

Temper tantrum... no. Your team is in NL so realistically no effect on you, unless you have another child at a different age group. Big 5 decided to do things a different way. The reasons have been hashed out over and over so no use going there.
GA Soccer is at fault for it's issues. If they can't keep their house in order than that's on them. If the Big 5 asked for too much then GA Soccer is better off without them.
Maybe I don't know enough about NL. But I wonder why you only have 11 games in the Fall and 5 games in the Spring (if its like last year). And while your team doesn't have to take a 7 hour drive to Wilson, NC there are Atlanta NL teams that do. Not sure that's what I would be looking for in a league.
Not bashing just curious. Given that our teams have played 4 times in the last year we might have crossed paths or even met.
Heck, If you're son was at ODP preliminary tryouts at George Pierce Park or played Super Y then we have met.

Surge not throwing any kind of tantrum here. I think you are missing the point that the Sccl was created for the teams that are not that competative. That is the whole point of the league. It gives the second and third teams from the big clubs a place to play where they do not get blown out in travel leagues. And yes it is possible for a coach and team to move to a new club. Sounds like your team should be playing ECNL or National league. The Sccl is not a top league. More like rec. This is great for most rec like teams but your team will quickly fall apart as players seek more competition environments. I wish your son good luck at tryouts next year!

Don't disagree on the competitiveness of the league at this point at least at our Age/Gender. Looked at switching but really like the coach and we've had a couple previously that left a lot to be desired. Nothing will change this year so we will supplement with scrimmages against other teams. Not sure what the next best option for next year as I'm not really excited by NPL or NL with the schedules of 11 games in Fall and 5 in Spring. But at least moving into the Spring you've had time to get an understanding of NL, NPL and SCCL. Who knows.

Is the real problem with this whole mess that RPL/NL doesn't have enough teams from each state? Should there be 8 teams from each state (relegating 4 each season). That would handle the top teams from the biggest clubs (minus DA). Then the local brackets under that having more teams (maybe 12 broken into 2 brackets) having maybe 18 games each applicable season (play each team from sub bracket twice and each from the other side once).
But then, this should have been done before ECNL started and spiraled into what we have now.

Surprisingly very little travel compared to SRPL- only two trips each season to the Carolinas. Very similar travel to SCCL and some could argue less since all games are centralized to one location for each weekend of play. Definitely a higher level of competition than SCCL right now but that could change over time. I’m guessing that the competition level will continue to get further and further apart though as many quality players realize that one of the most important things for development(behind the coach) is competitive matches week in and week out.

NL/RPL has clearly been better this season from an organizational standpoint, no argument there. One big issue that I never hear talked about is that there is a reason Georgia has 3 girls DA clubs, 4 girls ECNL clubs while a state like Alabama has 1. Before those leagues existed it must have been so frustrating for Georgia team 5,6,7 who did not make RPL but saw lower level teams from other states make the cut. that I think fits in with the post and I don't ever see brought up is the mandatory slots from each state. Why should Alabama get the same number of spots as Georgia? Look how many DA/ECNL clubs Georgia/NC/FL are able to support vs some of the other states in region 3. Before DA/ECNL we had teams travelling the region and games that were often 6+ goal differences while we had 10 Georgia teams that they could have had a better game against locally.

My only question about the boys side is how aggressive is the promotion/relegation? I would think you'd need to promote/relegate 4 teams from the state into RPL/NL every season. Create incentive.

Why did Sccl include out of state teams when the intended purpose of the league was for lower teams not to travel?
