I read this over the weekend and laughed out loud!!! OMG!! Has it come to this?? I didn't think it was that hard and fast a rule anywhere about Juniors/Seniors on JV. This generation of parents need to stop trying save their kids like this. Do you know what kind of hell he will face??

It appears this is a rule this school has. From reading the story, it sounds like the kid is just not quite good enough to make the team. There is no ultimate embarrassment in that. Not everyone that tries out makes the basketball team, not everyone that tries out makes the cheerleader squad, and not everyone that tries out becomes the Drum Major for the Marching Band. The coaches determined how many slots they have for the team, and this specific kid is not good enough.
The article said the school does not have the same policy for girls. Maybe, just maybe, it has never been an issue for girls. Maybe no junior that did not make the varsity of her chosen sport simply accepted the decision, and did not attempt to play JV. Maybe. I certainly do not know.
What I do know is this mother is not really doing her kid any favors. Will she sue when he does not get accepted to a college when he applies? Will she sue when he is not offered a job after he interviews?
Teach your kid the world is not always fair, we don’t always get what we want, find some other way to get his soccer fix, and move on with his life. Maybe he can be a team manager.
Most likely it is too late in the season to make an impact any way. If the judge decides in favor of the kid, do we really think the coaches will play him?
This is an absurd use of the court system in the Show Me State.

What will mom do when junior doesn't get into the first college of his choice? Or get the job he really wanted? Unfortunately, she'll still be stepping in as the lawnmower parent - we had a father call my boss several months ago when his son didn't get a second interview. Daddy wanted to know why and what his precious could do to get another chance. My boss simply said, have HIM call next time not you. Let your kids fail, make mistakes, not make a top team. Let them fight their battles - or they will either become insufferable brats or never leave home.
Whatever attorney that took this case should be disbarred. What a colossal waste of our court system's time!
