Minute 0:49 should be played to USSF... who is busy making multi million deals to track running while the cost of high level soccer starts at $1,200 per year. Business and stats don’t make good soccer players.

He makes a point about technical, but the GPS trackers were to look at two other aspects that are also important, fitness and tactical. Fitness aspect of the heart rate and distance traveled is important for injury recovery and prevention. The heat mapping aspect is helpful in looking at tactical positioning which is also important. It helps to reinforce what you can see from film. When you combine whether there are correlations between being tired (based on the GPS) and the positioning you can see where they can improve on wasting energy, saving energy, needing to work out more, etc. It is not a substitute for technical skills obviously but it has its place.
