I have a question about this for parents of older kids. How many kids are actually identified at these camps versus the coaches actually seeing them play actual games with their clubs? Seems like most people I know got recruited by contacting the coaches and sending video and then the coaches watching them at tournaments, showcases, regular season matches.. I think the camps have value to keep kids fit, get playing time, assess their abilities versus other players and to learn about schools they are interested in...but how many kids are actually recruited after these camps.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mine defintely was recruited at Georgia College. She was sidelined all last year ACL and was not seen at all 11th grade, Once cleared, attended UAB in July and the Georgia College coach invited here to come in September. We signed with them in December!! The coach had some notes from seeing her in 10th grade at a high school game, but other than that... She also had some offers from Piedmont, after their camp and ECNL games, and Oglethorpe (scrimmage with ECNL team).

Unfortunately a lot of these camps are money makers and they are only looking at certain kids. Have your child contact coach before camp. Yes kids do get pulled aside at these camps, but also ask how many attendees are there. If too many, then they may not get seen by head coach. Also ask if the current players will be at the camp helping. I was always told that its a red flag if the coach doesn't want you to have access to players

College coaches rarely come to a high school game. They do go to showcases. Kid played in Florida over Xmas. In 3 games, over 50 different coaches were at the games. Kid received 5 direct emails from coaches as a result. If you get invited by a mass email its probably for making money. Personal invites indicate genuine interest.

I know they don't watch high school games. My kid doesn't even want to play for her school. Good to hear that they emailed your kid after the showcase. Congrats! That is what I expected.

I’ve seen college coaches at HS games. It was late in the playoffs but it happened. Not just local colleges either.

I am curious the age of your child. Mine is a class of 2021, so the D1 & D2 schools are not supposed to contact her yet. How does one know if it is a direct email? At the showcases our team has attended, our team manager has passed out a pamphlet with player information. Thus, the coaches have our contact information. So, how do we know if the message from a coach is a mass message or not if it has my child’s name in the email? Maybe this is a dumb question.

Our contact was a direct email with really detailed information about her playing style, plays she made etc. so we knew it wasn’t mass mailing. You can reach out to them, but they cannot reach out to you.

Check the bottom of the email and it will say "powered by" or "sent on behalf" vs. a specific message.
Another clue is if they do not include more than a name with no distinguishing commentary of your players playing style, particular play or "I saw you play at...I was impressed with your...
Those types of statements show they know more than a first name plucked from a roster by a computer.
