This could be the year of alliances. This seems to be the next wave. SSA/ Concorde, KSA/ Storm/ All in, Impact/ IA/ Smyrna. What’s next?
It’s stating the obvious that teams will be more competitive by forming an alliance and combining their best players. However, if this trend continues and clubs react in a similar fashion, could we see some “real” powerhouse alliances formed next? What if more geographically friendly alliances were formed?

Inter ATL, Smyrna, Cherokee Impact. From Facebook postings: seems they were encouraged by recent meetings in Chicago. They also look to be starting some combined teams for competitive play as "pre-DA". Isn't this the exact same thing they said last year around this time and then nothing happened? From what I see, they first announced Smyrna Impact United (SSC/Cherokee partnership) in Jan. '18. The stated goal was Super Y that summer (which they did) and wanting DA entry for Fall '19. Then, at the end of May '18, Ga. Alliance FC was announced and Inter Atl entered the picture. The stated goal was DA entry for Fall '19. (They wanted to deliver Boys DA 12, 13, 14 and Girls DA 14 and up.) So, we'll wait and see if they do get anything for Fall '19. As we see from this thread, they are starting to get together and scrimmage against other DA programs. I don't know if "nothing happened" qualifies... yet.

I see these teams being very marginal (at best) on the boys side and subpar on girls side.

Yea -- makes me wonder why this alliance didn't play one of the other u13 DA sides.

You were correct, the final was 6-1 AU, however, it wasn't the full team. The whole team has been split into two with U12s making up the difference. The other half of the AU U13s play Friday vs. Inter Atlanta U14s at Arizona. For comparison’s sake, 6-1 would be the second largest margin of victory for the AU U13s all season in DA. AU hasn’t played Lanier, SSA, or NASA yet, but they have played AFC (3-0 win) and Concorde (2-0 & 3-1 wins) and UFA (4-0 & 10-0 wins). I’m assuming someone’s going to tell me the big score against UFA had some extenuating circumstances since it’s such an outlier in the AU season. Granted, AU puts different combinations of players on the field for different games, so it’s not necessarily a totally accurate comparison. They’ve also lost to NCFC, NCFC South, and World Class. So just for comparison’s sake, that’s where the Georgia Alliance combined team would stand I guess. Seems as though everyone is pretty quick to bag on these guys and the DA attempt... I'm not intending on carrying the water for these guys- maybe I just like playing devil's advocate. :-P Looking at that scoreline, you could say they did manage to score a goal (which only one other local club has done according to the above scores). LOL. Also, these guys have just gotten together. How many training sessions have they had prior to this game? 2? 3? AU 13s have been together for how long? Rather than what the scoreline indicates... how did they actually look on the field against a team that has been playing and training together for a long time. And at the end of the day (at least for the parents of players in the Alliance), someone knows who's hand to shake because they were able to get the game! Ha.

If Boys U12 DA goes away next year, do all the non full DA clubs get just U13, U14 next year? Then just U14 following that? Or will they eventually get U13-15 2019-20, U14-16 2020-21? Seems odd to only have DA for 1 year for the 4 clubs(nasa, ssa, afc, lanier) if not so.

Same thing also goes for creating a separate U16 from the combined age group U16/17 At this point it's all conjecture. In the past, before U12 was introduced, there were clubs that only had U13/u14 only... When AU came on board, that's all Georgia United fielded, since they gave up the older age groups to AU.

3) Better options on the girls side. SSA, GSA, and AFC all apply each year. All three are vastly better on the girls side then even the most optimistic combination of players from this alliance. Are you saying the better option is on the girls. Side and these 3 clubs should apply each year in hopes of somebday being added, or are you saying you know for sure these 3 clubs do apply each year? If the second, how do you know this? Just curious.

That is the prevailing thought from all the pundits and "experts" but unfortunately I have not seen anything official from US Soccer DA. Like most i've heard about the current U12s, going on to U13s and once they are done and move on to U14s, scrapping the U13s also and maybe even introducing a U16 age group. If you find something official, please share but till then, we're at the whims of US Soccer...FG
