Reviewed the Georgia Alliance Facebook page and they referenced they applied for DA. Anyone know if it’s boys, girls, both and what age groups?

Who is Georgia Alliance again? Inter ATL, Smyrna, Cherokee Impact. From Facebook postings: seems they were encouraged by recent meetings in Chicago. They also look to be starting some combined teams for competitive play as "pre-DA".

Yes, everywhere there's any sort of commute in Atlanta - it's going to suck. But if parents/players can work it out, more power to them. I'm interested in seeing if this Alliance is granted DA and with what ages. Currently, only 3 clubs have all ages and with DA cutting u12 (and rumored to be cutting u13) - how many clubs are going to stay in the program with only the u14 age group. This granting of a program (or denial) could indicate things to come in the GA soccer scene.

My guess (and it's just a guess) is that the practices would take place at Life University. The Life Men's coaching staff is all Cherokee Impact (GA Impact now). When Cherokee and Smyrna did Super Y together last summer, the "home games" were at Life University.
What happens if the DA application doesn't come to fruition? Is your combined team then placed in GA Soccer for a shot at National League?

GSA wants DA? Ok...if they want to leave ECNL, so be it.

Likelihood of this group being given DA in any form is virtually nil. A few things stand in the way. 1) The clubs have no track record of high level player development. Really none. 2) No room for a new program on the boys side. AU, UFA, CF and all the younger academy clubs. US Soccer isn’t going to add a DA franchise to Atlanta. They would be more likely to take one away than to add. 3) Better options on the girls side. SSA, GSA, and AFC all apply each year. All three are vastly better on the girls side then even the most optimistic combination of players from this alliance. This alliance and their DA application each year are a deceptive marketing ploy to keep good players from leaving these clubs for any of the higher level programs that surround them. It’s always a shame when club leaders lie to parents and kids to benefit themselves. I agree with most of your points - however, I don't know if we're going to continue to see the number of Atlanta clubs in Boys DA that we do now. Of the 7 Georgia clubs, 4 stop at u14. Will all of those clubs stay in DA with only one age group? I'm sure there are conversations going on to determine that and some other things (which may be why this Alliance seems encouraged). As far as being deceptive - I've yet to see a youth club with total transparency.

I mentioned all those other clubs who apply for DA each year. The important distinction that shows the intentionally deceptive nature of the Georgia Alliance stuff and really reveals a lack of character on the part of its leadership is the fact that you’ve never seen any of these other, more established, clubs marketing to their members that they are going to offer a program they don’t yet have. I don’t have any issue with the ambition to apply for DA as a group of clubs. But so much of how this group has gone about things reeks of the worst type of BS artist. You simply can’t let that kind of thing slide when the business involved deals with the hopes and dreams of children. I’m so tired of these type of people being involved with youth. Again - I haven't seen a club yet that has transparency. As to the Alliance, I haven't seen anything other than telling ppl they've applied. I don't know if they've gone so far as to tell parents they ~will~ get it in order to keep them there. BTW - I have no dog in the hunt with any of the 3 clubs. I'm more interested in seeing how it plays out in regards to the elimination of u12 and rumored u13. I really can't see all the clubs staying in w/ one age group.

Interesting that the combined U14 group under the umbrella of Georgia Alliance, plays the AU U13s tonite at Lake Point and then tomorrow the stand alone Inter Atlanta U14s play the AU U13s at ARizona Ave...
In other news in regards to the retirement of the U12 DA age group this fall and the U13s the following year, that will leave 4 local clubs with only the U14 age group. I personally don't think any(AFC, LSA, NASA or SSA) are good enough to stand on their own and be issued a U15s, U17s, U19s. However, what are your thoughts on taking a page out of the old Georgia United model (Metro Atlanta Alliance) and truly combining resources and giving AU/CF/UFA a run for their money. It would create 4 solid teams, we would do away with all the less competitive games at the younger age groups. Force the clubs to really develop them at 12/13 and unleash a pseudo all star team at 14. I would also take a page out of ODP and have frequent sessions say twice a month that would allow these players from all the clubs come together and train. It would have to be independently run by a paid coach/coaches for this endeavor alone. It can't be a current coach at another club. That coach would take all players sent to him by the member clubs but answers to no one club, so he can make his mind up on who makes it or not. I would bring in LSA/NASA/SSA/AFC/GSA/AFU/Ambush/Inter. If you want to be on the MAA you will have to be rostered at one of the member clubs. All costs will be equally shared by every club.
That is a scenario that would make a for some fun times in the local Atlanta soccer market...FG

I guess it would be interesting to see/hear what that AFC's/NASAs/Laniers/SSAs are thinking right now.
Are they also applying for full DA?
The story gets complex, in the current state if MLS remains with the regular DA structure, then I see no expansion for the 3 older age groups. If MLS splits away its an entirely different story though.
So we know u12s are going away, rumor is the following year the u13s are going away. (rumor at this time).
for 2019-2020 u13, u14, u15, u17s, u19s.
for the 2020-2019 we think its u14, u15, u17s, u19s
I could potentially see the current u12-u14 DA sides being award u15s, but then that adds 4 more teams to the southeast division that already sits at 15 teams. They would have to retain the u13/u14 scheduling structure most likely for the 15s that only includes Georgia/south carolina/north carolina

just for background, there's an existing thread on georgia alliance from May 25, 2018.
many of same points made then. new part is discussion of whether changed DA rules will impact this application and/or existing clubs w/o U15, etc...

according to USSDA FAQs, girls DA will go to 14, 15, 16, 16/17 and 18/19 next season.
wouldn't be surprising to see boys go to the same model, if/when they drop U13
it would make sense that competitive applications for new age groups and/or new clubs come from alliances or consortia that can field squads at most of these levels.
don't think there will be many clubs left with only U14 and U15 and it will be a burden for some to field 16 plus 16/17

It may very well be false advertising. And probably is. But it's done to keep the better kids from leaving. Cherokee has an girls ENCL alliance with FC Alliance out of Knoxville. From my understanding two girls from each age group get the benefit of playing ENCL soccer in the Ohio Valley conference. So games in OH, IN, TN, etc. Not really close to Atlanta. But it's used as a tool...

Aren't they also adding the gap U16 year to DA? I could see U14/U15 at several clubs (say 10?), U16/U17 at around 6 GEOGRAPHICALLY situated clubs, and U19 at 4 geographically situated clubs.
IMO practice 4 nights a week driving an hour plus each way is insane. 3 nights at 2 hours = same amount of practice time.
Below would be on the assumption that AU/MLS leave the DA and USSF tries to maintain a semblance of the DA model:
IMO it would be cool if USSF DA "created" teams based on population centers, then chose clubs to HOST the team. The team could (subject to being moved to another club if performance drops). Eg. Georgia North, Atlanta Northeast, Atlanta Northwest, Atlanta Central, Atlanta South, etc. The selling point is still there for the host clubs. Lets say USSF decides a club's facilities are below par to host the teams, move the team to a better facility. Suddenly clubs wanting to host a DA team need to pony up for TURF, REAL LIGHTS, REAL BATHROOMS, CONCESSIONS, etc.

the girls are adding the u16s, not the boys 2019-20 Season Age Group Adjustments Girls' U-16 Age Group: The U-16 program will be adopted as an additional age group across all Clubs in the Academy Program. Boys' U-12 Age Group: The Development Academy will no longer operate U-12 programming. U-12 programs will be led by Clubs and Members for more direct management of Zone 1 (U-6 to U-12) player needs, while continuing to meet Academy philosophy and standards. For more information on the changes to U-12 programming, please click here. Read more: gasoccerforum.com/thread/3701/confirmed-changes-12-usda-programming#ixzz5fWxaNotF

Just to note: ALL clubs try to market or incentivize ways to keep players and parents there. "Oh, we will definitely be in Classic 1/Athena A". I don't think there's anything inherently wrong in trying to keep your top players ~if~ you believe you can offer something. With that said, I know of good clubs and coaches that have sent players on to other opportunities because they knew they could not offer the level player wanted or could play. As many problems as there are with all the clubs, I don't know how many truly have ill intent. It's up to the parents to practice due diligence and do the homework.

Regarding player development, there are kids from Inter on several of AU teams and this has been true since the founding of AU. It may also be the case for the other clubs in the Alliance.

It may also be the case for the other clubs in the Alliance. By that measure Concorde is the best developmental club in the state since basically their entire 07 team got invited to AU this year. I don’t think it follows that because a kid spent a couple years at U10 or U11 in your club that you are responsible for them going pro many years later after moving on. The best example is WR at Atlanta United now. He followed his older brother through the youth academy at Inter. He was a very good player when he left Inter, but he will tell you that he became the player he is now because of Tony Annan while at Georgia United. Now he’s in YNT camps. Does Inter get credit for that? I think that’s a dubious claim. There are more big college commits in any given year at Concorde, NTH, GSA, etc. than the members of this alliance can boast in their combined history. Instead of marketing this pipe dream, the leaders at these clubs should put their heads down and improve their actual product. Salty! :-P

GDA is not comparable top to bottom to ecnl currently. If MLS pulls out of DA then DA will be gone IMO.

The southeast conference could survive at least until MLS arrives in North Carolina. Still quality competition. The problem is more player identification - and dismissal of all the non mls players

I might expect a wider margin... the AU u13s have been together a while (including previous years). The Alliance teams have just started getting together, correct?

You were correct, the final was 6-1 AU, however, it wasn't the full team. The whole team has been split into two with U12s making up the difference. The other half of the AU U13s play Friday vs. Inter Atlanta U14s at Arizona.

the score was 6-1, AU U13 against a prospective group of U13 boys from all 3 Alliance clubs. it was a nearly full roster of AU. as you'd expect, AU had almost all the chances, but the Alliance boys played hard and played well for their short time together. about 25 boys were there for Alliance. parents said it was exclusively an 06 Alliance team.
a different AU U13 roster will play, with U12 supplements, against IAFC tonight at Az.
it's accurate that there was an 07 match also at lake point, although I did not see this one.
Alliance parents mentioned that US Soccer reps were on site, in evaluation.
