Daughter is moving into U13 for the upcoming fall season. Speaking to a coach regarding the levels, he said: 1. ECNL/DA 2. NL 3. NPL/SCCL 4. Athena Is this at all accurate? Trying to decide whether it’s worth leaving local club for an NPL/SCCL team (daughter not at ECNL level). 1. DA 2. ECNL 3. NL 4. NPL 5. SCCL 6. Athena

Granted, some ppl would like to further delineate the levels (usually depending on what league their kid is in ;-P ). Keep in mind that any given day, some lowly team in any level can beat a team above them, but in my reading of this site, you've got the level pretty much right. Good luck to your daughter.

I would put ECNL at or above DA for girls. DA does not have enough seasons to claim top spot where ECNL does.

If you think your kid is NL/NPL/SCCL level and you're at a place where you can stomach the drive to one of those clubs, have her try out there.
If you want to get the feel of the clubs/teams, reach out to the clubs and get into contact with the coach of the current team that will move to that level next fall. Ask if your kid can tryout with their girls to get a feel for the team.
You never really know what you're getting into. But its good to challenge your child to break out of their comfort zone.

I would put ECNL at or above DA for girls. DA does not have enough seasons to claim top spot where ECNL does. Except that every club in the country that had both made DA the top team, and ECNL the second.
Also - there's not a lot of separation between NPL/NL for the most part.. and honestly not between those two and up to about mid-tier ECNL.

While I wouldn't go so far as to put ECNL above DA, I would argue that in the Southeast, at least in my daughter's age group, there is very little difference between the two leagues from top to bottom - I might even give the slight edge to ECNL (in that age group). The top half of ECNL is pretty equivalent to the top half of DA - same true of the bottom half. May not be true in all regions, but by not working with ECNL in the creation of DA (I heard ECNL was willing to work with DA), US Soccer has essentially forced the top 10 or so teams into 2 different leagues. Same could be said with the creation of SCCL and all the other alphabet leagues. Not to say there aren't still competitive games, but definitely not as much parity as there used to be when all teams were in the same system.

Why? Is she unhappy with her present team and her coach? Does she not have good friends on her team? Does she stand out as far better than the other girls on the team? I don't see why you would want to change from a local club to a club with higher level teams unless there is some driving force other than seeking a higher level just because it sounds better, particularly with the difficulties of travelling if you are in the Atlanta area. If you are unhappy with the club, the team, the coach, the teammates, the playing standard, by all means look somewhere else. I wouldn't fret playing levels too much at 13, find a team that is convenient where you think she will be happy. Often that will be a team where she already has friends playing.

This is partially true. Clubs like CF, Hawks, PDA, Eclipse (to name a few) all had top teams in DA last year and then return back to ECNL for 2018-19 year. And so, DA has dozens of top clubs and ECNL has dozens of top clubs. What I hear is DA is scrambling bc a few more top clubs which were all in at DA have reapplied to ECNL.

To discover the differnce between GDA and ECNL look at the Tophat webpage and look at the differnce between the colleges that DA vs ECNL girls will be playing for. Worth the travel for DA. Not worth the travel for ECNL.

You might see something different if you look at TH DA commits next to Concorde ECNL commits. As I mentioned previously, you are comparing a club's top team to their 2nd team. May want to look at UFA GDA vs Concorde too before you come to a conclusion.

RICHMOND, VA (November 1, 2018) – For the fourth consecutive year, ECNL alums constitute the majority of women’s collegiate soccer players in the SEC. In 2018, ECNL Alums make up more than 67% of the entire SEC, and 65% of the conference’s individual honorees. The ECNL College Impact on the SEC, one of the top soccer conferences in the country, is overwhelming and continues to increase every year.
Ten years ago, the Girls ECNL transformed the landscape for girls’ soccer and began a movement that would impact all levels of women’s soccer. The ECNL College Impact catalogs the incredible impact ECNL Alums have on collegiate women’s soccer conferences across the country every year.
The ECNL College Impact for the SEC includes all players currently active on SEC rosters:
263 ECNL Alum are currently playing in the SEC – more than 67% of the total players in the SEC. There were 82 ECNL Alums in the 2018 SEC freshman class, nearly 70% of the total class. 26 players from the SEC First Team, Second Team, and All-Freshman Team are ECNL Alums, 65% of the SEC Conference honorees. The SEC Freshman Player of the Year (Haley Hopkins) and SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year (Emma Welch) are ECNL Alums. 9 of the 14 players on the First Team All-SEC are ECNL Alums.

Not worth the travel for ECNL. That is because TH (for this year) has the first team in DA and the second team in ECNL. CF has its first teams in ECNL. Compare TH DA commits w/ CF ECNL first team commits and they are mutually impressive and comparable. CF 01 and 02 commits include just off the top of my head Stanford, USC (2) (Southern Cal), Notre Dame (2), Vandy, Texas, Clemson, UGA, Tennessee, West Va., Va Tech, etc.

Did NTH and Concorde send girls to D1 schools prior to DA? Yep.
Will NTH (DA) and Concorde (ECNL) send girls to D1 schools this year? Yep.
Current D1 signees (from top drawer soccer):
NTH (DA/ECNL): USC, Florida, Virginia, Maryland, Indiana, Georgia, LSU, Samford, Colgate, Boston University, Marshall, Iowa State, Santa Clara, Georgia Southern, Furman, Samford, Arkansas State, Howard, Mercer
CF (ECNL): USC, USC, Clemson, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas, Georgia, Georgia, Army, Kansas, Hawaii, Mercer, Furman, Coastal Carolina, Liberty
UFA (DA): Alabama, Kennesaw State, Kennesaw State, Kennesaw State, UAB, Middle Tennessee, Mercer, Samford, Davidson, Davidson
SSA (Neither): Florida, Vanderbilt, Middle Tennessee, Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Charleston Southern
GSA (ECNL): Kennesaw State, Kennesaw State, Jacksonville State, Mercer, Alabama State
AFU (ECNL): UAB, College of Charleston
AFC (Neither): Georgia State
IAFC (Neither): Furman
Concorde's (ECNL) list of schools is better than UFA (DA). Its not the league, its the club.

Its not the league, its the club. This is all pretty true. That being said, as others have said, CF and TH had ECNL when these girls were recruited. DA has nothing to do with their commits. Frankly DA has nothing to do with UFA commits either (or very little) since many of the 2019 grads weren't playing DA when their recruiting started. If you look at when the average female soccer player commits to a college that is in the early to middle 10th grade. No kid graduating this year was playing DA in the 10th grade because it did not exist. Same goes for comparing TH DA to TH ECNL or even the CF teams who have been in DA and then ECNL. We will really know the benefit of DA in 2 more years IF UFA still has it and CF does not. Then you can make some sort of comparison that COULD reasonably reflect on the level of the league. Even then there will still be a club effect. I think the SSA list is interesting and just goes to show that you don't NEED to be in either to get into a great D1 school. As an FYI one of the best YNT players for girls right now plays out of a club that is NPL...South Shore Select. They have 2 players at a recent YNT camp for U15. Just find a place that challenges your daughter, has a good and supportive coaching staff and where she will be happy.

Just my humble opinion but outside of Tophat DA not a vert impressive list of colleges. Is it normal for Georgia clubs to not do better in college placements? I thought Georgia was pretty strong in girls soccer.

Ahem: unitedsoccercoaches.org/web/Rankings/College_Rankings/NCAA_DI_WOMEN/web/Rankings/NCAA/DI_WOMEN.aspxGirls signed by schools finishing in top 25: NTH: 4 (1 to school receiving votes) CF: 5 (2 to schools receiving votes) UFA: 0 SSA: 1 Once DA was announced did no girls from other clubs tryout for UFA, NTH and CF DA? Or did they only take the girls already at those clubs? IMO the strengths of these clubs will be the same in 5 years as it was 5 years ago. Also, USCe (South Carolina) is a VERY strong women's soccer school.

Also, USCe (South Carolina) is a VERY strong women's soccer school. True about South Carolina. The rankings for this year's signees don't really matter that much. Need to look at the historical power of the program. Take Vandy for instance...a great academic school. It was a mediocre soccer program until this year. I would even argue that their 5 or 6 Tophat players are part of the reason they have been coming on strong recently. You gave SSA only 1, but yet they have a girl that signed for Florida (who was not super strong this year so you didn't count that) yet they have been a top 25 program 90% of the time that it has been in existence. I say you shortchanged SSA. In addition, kids join college programs for a number of reasons and some of those can't be measured by a simple top 25 look. Take Davidson for example...really strong academically but small and SUPER EXPENSIVE. Now, I don't know, but who is to say that a kid didn't take a spot on that team (weak soccer program) because they got a better offer money wise there and the academics are so strong, but could have gone (with less money) to a better soccer school. I also think that UFA will get better kids over time with DA (or if they switch to ECNL) than they got with neither. The most talented ones left to go to clubs that had ECNL (when DA didn't exist). The exposure kids got with neither was less than they are getting with DA. I still think TH is king (or queen) and CF is a very close second regardless of DA or ECNL and that won't change, but UFA having DA or ECNL helps them be closer to GSA and AFU and can surpass them with number of quality kids. This, IMHO, is why those ECNL clubs kept UFA out for all of those years...they knew it would cause them to lose the advantage they had over UFA in "elite" leagues.

Should not all girls use soccer as a lever to get a better education? Why get an inferior education just to play soccer? Does anyone have an opinion about that? No judgement. Just trying to understand priorities. How should girls use soccer to achieve an education that they could not have gotten without soccer. I think my daughter is the best player ever but I think she will probably need a career outside of soccer after college to be sicxessfull.

A kid needs to pick a school not just for soccer but for the school. They need to ask themselves the question, that if they were to get injured and never play again will they still want to go to that school.
And yes for my kid it has always been about going to college and get an education to have a career.
No woman can live off being a professional soccer player, not unless you marry another professional athlete lol.

Regardless, the quality of the education is the most important thing that should be considered. It depends on the cost of the education, too. I don't care who you are (exception to people like Bill Gates of course) going to Duke costs a lot of money!

2019 womens D1 signees? Looks pretty accurate for the nearest SEC/ACC schools at least. Didn't look further than that. Can only go on the information thats readily available.
If its parent submitted how do they rank players?
Florida had a down year and is typically a top program, sure. But if you follow college football, your program is only as strong as your previous season.

Back to the OP...id say moving clubs depends more on their unique situation.
Is the child frustrated with the skill level of the other players on their local team?
Is the child unhappy with the club and the level of play of the local club?
Is the child close to the players om their team?
Is the local club focused on player development?
Do the other parents take the club and the team seriously, or are they just happy to have Sally in a sport?
Is the coach able to teach tactical concepts, or will they still be teaching players the fundamentals?
Where do the child and parent want to go with soccer and whats their commitment level?
How far and how long is the family willing to drive?
Its pretty easy to recommend the right club for a given player in a given location once you have all the info. U13 is an important transition year for players. Its where a lot of girls choose to leave the sport.
