Just curious about any talks in creating an 04 team for the boys who don’t make the U16/17 team next season? Seems like another merged age group has possibilities to continue for AU? That would be a lot of talented Boys getting cut. I imagine some of last years 03 cut will try for a spot on the roster as well.

My guess is like the 03s this year, they will keep the majority of the roster together to play in friendlies and tournaments throughout the year.
Who have the 03s been playing this spring?

Rumorville has it that Atl will have two U17 teams next year. The true U17A team will travel and play out of country (maybe). The U17B team will compete in the U17 DA. Who knows. I've also heard they will keep it the same as this year.
The current 03's have played Dalton 01/02, GSA 02, SSA 02, Rush 02, Darlington Academy, Concorde 03 ENCL, NASA etc.. So they play a lot of U17 ECNL or NPL teams.

Wow -- playing out of the country! Great experience for sure, would give the kids great exposure as well.
on the flip side, does AU want their kids getting this type of exposure, seems it then allows them to leave and the club gets nothing in return?
how did the side to against the concorde ECNL 03s? There are so many talented kids on 03 AU team, still stunned more aren't playing with the current 17s

No clue. Just heard from another parent.
I would think they would. If the player turns 18 and Atl doesnt sign to home grown they could sell and recoup investments.
Thats this weekend. CF 03 at Atlanta United.

I have also heard they will have two teams, made up of 2003s and 2004s. There will be players that play for both teams, while others will play exclusively with the regular U17 DA Schedule. Others will play in games like the GA Cup Qualifiers against the other MLS Academies and they will be the face of the U17s, playing in major tournaments both in and out of the country. They will fill in the open weekends with games against opponents not as strong as the DA/MLS clubs. Still a plan in motion, brought on by the fact that the "holding" team is not truly being challenged. So when they now come online this fall as the make-up for the U17s, they spend the first 3 months adjusting back to the flow of the game...FG

Kind of joke to me to be honest -- they have national team pool players on that 03 "holding" team, did they really think they would get challenged. Kids from all over the southeast. Doesn't take a genius to realize that.
either way doesn't seem like US soccer cares about the start rule anymore and identifying players at FT or transitional/part time players etc.

Concorde 03 ECNL beat AU 03's this weekend. From my view, AU got dominated. However to be fair AU was missing 3 normal starters. 4-2 Concorde.

missing 3 starters and played 4x 04's. AU missed a few easy opportunities. I wouldnt say dominated. Plus, subbing 4/5 players at a time 3/4 times in the game. pretyy crazy if you ask me.

Concorde was subbing 5 at a time and they also played 3 04's. Yes AU got dominated and Concorde missed a couple of sitters as well.

Yea, well don't forget the top 03's should be playing with the u17s anyway. But only a few get time with that team, maybe 3 of them. Still a handful of studs on that 03 team Atlanta United team, 3 or 4 other states with representation.

I never understand why people get so pumped up over a "friendly" win, as if one game means overall superiority. First of all, every team can have a great day and every team can have a rotten day. Secondly, even people who think they are in the know don't always know what is going on in a coach's mind and how they may have set up the game plan or who they might be giving more time than usual. Finally, even pros have games that defy explanation (i.e. the 4-0 thrashing that Everton put on Man U this weekend...not even a shot on frame for Man U until 10 minutes before full time).
IN SOCCER ONE GAME MEANS NOTHING WHEN COMPARING TEAMS. I have no dog in this AU vs CF fight. Just saying.. be happy that you won, CF parents. Be proud of your kids. But don't draw any conclusions from it.

Nope, someone said that they were playing this weekend, but did not give updates. Had AU won, there would have been updates. Just putting an update up that maybe some people didn't care to see. There was no overjoy except for calling it how it was. There were not players named, no overjoy, just an update. It sounds like you're a little butt hurt.

"I never understand why people get so pumped up over a "friendly" win" You got pumped out of my update, seems a little odd.

Hence the I have no dog in this fight comment.

"I never understand why people get so pumped up over a "friendly" win" This was your quote no? This was your reply to me no? Did I sound so pumped that concorde won? I don't think so. So see you were just trying to be an idiot and start shizzle.
This quote, notice all in caps:

I didn't make any statements comparing the teams or claiming one team was better. I just said what I saw. Nothing more, nothing less. Quit acting like an azz.

I will ALWAYS quote the person when I am directing at them unless it is a general reply to multiple people. This is a general theme that people tend to post about friendly wins or losses. They tend to make comments that IMPLY comparison. So when you use a word like "dominate" that implies or states a comparison. You just so happened to be the last person in a long line of people who post about a friendly game. I think I am behaving rationally. I am not trying to start crap. I am trying to end it. And when you use a word like "dominate" it does sound like you are pumped up. I think thou doth protest too much.
