I wonder if it'll get better participation than Super-Y (which seems to be dwindling).
Also, will the "championship" include a medal?

Also, will the "championship" include a medal? Dwindling? How so? Dwindling in ATL anyways. Less teams participating (on the girls side at least). They had to combine the 06 and 05 girls age groups and STILL only had 4 teams (2 06 and 2 05) and the 04/03 were combined also for ony 4 teams. Looks like the boys only had 4 at U15 and combine the U16/U17 age groups for 6 teams. U11/U12 doesn't count much IMO, USL doesn't have finals at those age groups but the participation is better.

On the girls side, I've never seen much participation in Super Y. Still, across all age groups, you had 21 teams. (13 in the ages that count.) On the boys side: 38 teams (24 in the ages that count.)
That seems to to be a pretty good amount of participation for the summer. I haven't seen the contraction.

The inclusion of GSA last summer basically made the girls side viable. I don't know that any of the GSA teams did well and I've heard they're already planning to contract the number of teams they're putting into it next summer.
UFA was supposed to have a team in our bracket (and they're listed there) but they didn't participate.

I will be curious to see what clubs enter a team in the SCCL Summer league and what teams enter a team in Super Y. I highly doubt clubs will be able to enter one in each, unless it is somehow possible to enter the same roster in both leagues. Initially I do have the following questions:
- Will AFU potentially try to use this as a bargaining chip to get into SCCL-1? They can offer to move their summer teams to the SCCL league and in return get top flight SCCL, or they can stick with SCCL-P and Super-Y.
- Is this league only going to be regional or will there be some sort of National Championship in the winter, similar to Super-Y?
- Will Super-Y in Metro Atlanta even be viable if the main SCCL clubs don't join Super-Y and opt for their own SCCL league instead?

If AFU doesn't know whether it's in SCCL by April I wouldnt expect them to consider this. I doubt most of their 2nd teams stay in SCCL-P in that case and either make a push for GPL or some other regional league at that point. I think from the DOC perspective this was a trial/proving year due to all that went down with GH and SCCL the previous year.

Another question- is the league requiring all clubs with a SCCL and/or SCCLP team to participate? If so, how will each club put their summer team together? Tryouts open to SCCL/P level member players or open to all? Or will each club take their current SCCL OR SCCLP team (whichever did better In the previous season)? If a club opens the roster to a mixture of its SCCL and SCCLP players, that’s an extra opportunity (Other than tryouts) for individual SCCLP player promotion the next year since there’s no team promotion. Will be interesting to see considering the timing of the summer league and tryouts.
Our current club does not participate in super Y. We previously played with a smaller club that did. At the end of Super Y tryouts, the Uwhatever team was usually comprised of players from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd teams. Super Y level of play wasn’t consistent. If clubs without SCCL teams can move past egos and put their Uwhatever NL team in the SCCL summer league, it would yield a more consistent level of play for that team and the parents paying for it.
Sorry that was a lot of questions and theories.

Since this is a summer league, and not everyone is going to play, my thought is all rosters will be independent of the Fall/Spring rosters. I am sure there will be a lot of DA/ECNL players participating, depending on which is offered by the club, and tryouts will be open to all...including players from outside the club. As examples from last year, I know both the GSA & AFU Super Y teams at many ages included a lot of top team players. Both clubs essentially fielded the best team based on players that wanted to play in the summer. So, while it will be an "SCCL League" I don't believe it will be limited to SCCL or SCCL-P players. I also don't think the rosters are going to closely mirror regular season rosters.

Super-Y is definitely 2nd-3rd level competition. The club would take whatever players from their club they could and whoever from other clubs, Develemental players primarily (vs game players). The purpose was considered development but 1st teamers definitely started the games.
I think this SCCL league will steal thunder from Super-Y. I doubt SCCL mandates its clubs have teams in the league.
Super-Y finals are a great tournament though, better than ECNL showcases IMO (at least when they were at IMG). Expensive trip though.

Just don’t sacrifice and miss family summer vacations for a summer league.

"Definitely" is a bold statement and certainly uses a broad brush. Just this past summer, on the boys side, you look at teams - up and down rosters are DA, ECNL, NPL, and SCCL players. It remains to be seen what will happen with Super Y with SCCL entering the summer fray - but to say it's 2nd-3rd level isn't what the rosters would show.

Again, this is why I wish there was a girl's forum. Not talking about boys Super-Y at all.
Yes, there were plenty of ECNL players on the girls side also, competition overall was 2nd tier at best, due to the number of non-ECNL players on the field at the same time.

On the girls' side I have seen a team play with 1st through 5th team players on a team. The older the kids get there are more competing interests in the summer such as summer camps (non-soccer), ID soccer camps, college trips even for kids who don't want to play college, summer jobs, etc. Plus for DA and ECNL kids there are the showcases/playoffs. For other teams that qualify there are regionals and nationals, etc. Seems like there is such a small window to get "summer" in.

It is only 2 months and it goes quick. Especially being framed with tryouts the first week of summer and team camp the final week of summer. So it's really 6-7 weeks. And then if you're playing in regionals or a national final that's at least another 2-3 weeks... Plus any sports camps.

My first impression is it will weaken Super y.
My second impression is it will be another way for the big clubs to see the players right below them in the pecking order. I assume at UFA for example that the team will be a mix between DA/SCCL1 and SCCLP kids. (And at ECNL clubs the same mix). As a UFA parent I'll use them as an example. Since DA and SCCL1 are at different locations, this may be a way for DA/SCCL1 and SCCLP players to be seen . It could help some of the SCCLP kids be seen by the SCCL1 group and then some of the SCCL1 kids to be seen by DA.

Knowing a lot of kids at the DA, NPL and SCCL-P level and several SCCL kids as well I would be surprised (on the girls side) to see many DA kids playing. It is possible that they will play, but only if the DA coach recommends it. The last season or two they have struggled to field super Y teams on the girls side...having to combine 05 and 06 to even have enough players. If the DA coaches recommend it then you may get 4 or 5 that would play. Part of the issue for DA and ECNL is the summer showcase...it is late. For DA at least it would go against the rules for them to play DA and a summer league at the same time.

Thanks oraclesfriend, I completely forgot about the DA angle. Thanks for reminding me. Being new to UFA, I was unaware they had issues fielding a Super Y team last year.
I assume UFA could have kids from other SCCL clubs legally join us for the summer since it's not part of the regular season? If you have insight on this I'd love it if you could share. For example, could a kid from SCCL Team A who happens to have a friend on SCCL Team B , legally join Team B, IF they had no other plans for the summer?

I am not sure for SCCL since it is new, but Super Y teams are not restricted to players from a particular club. I would hope that SCCL summer league would be the same. That would mean that players from club A, club B and club C could all be on the same SCCL team. The only issues are the "parent" club may not like that. I suppose it would depend on whether the parent club has a team. At UFA super Y had been popular for boys and reasonably so for the younger girls, but the older the girls get, the fewer girls play. The two locations do both participate and it is nice to have kids from Fowler and Norcross get to know each other. It feels more like one big happy club in the summer.

I look forward to meeting some of the Fowler parents. Our SCCL team played the NPL team recently in a tourney. Lost 3-2:( .......look forward to my daughter getting to know a couple of those kids.

UFA didn't have an 05/06 Super-Y team this past summer. They registered a team but did not compete. In the girls 06/05 age group there were 4 teams, so only 6 games.

From what we heard was if you’re playing SCCL/Ecnl/NPl (USClub) then you can’t move clubs but if you’re playing for a GaSoccer/NL (USYS) you can go to any of them just like Super Y. I would assume all the SCCL clubs would have an understanding to not allow players to move within SCCL clubs but they’d want to pull kids from Super Y clubs Ambush, DDY, and AFC as well as anyone else looking to play summer ball.
