I'm confused. Playing high school soccer and meeting eligibility are two different things. If the kid and/or his parents are not keeping abreast of grades and the minimum requirements of the clearinghouse he isn't going to be admitted and play anywhere (except a JUCO), no matter where he chooses to play his youth soccer. It's a real problem in football and BB. Rarely an issue in girl's soccer.

Been lurking for a while. We stayed over to watch the finals and the UFA coach may have had a talk with his kids but he got A LOT of help from the GSA coach. One of GSA's defenders got hurt and the coach took the attacking midfielder who was leading the attack (think she got first goal) and put her back in defense. Bye bye attack. GSA has about 5 kids in mid and the front line who make things happen and when the coach moves them or subs them the team collapses onto the defense. Very odd mentality at a final game. Actually....UFA adjusted their format and thats what made the difference. GSA and UFA always have good matches but GSA has yet to beat UFA even with their ECNL players they always bring. Frankly, ECNL players (at least at our level) are not the game changers that non ECNL teams seem to think. Regarding the final, have to respectfully disagree with you, Soccermom. 'Runner' has it pegged.

GSA doesn' have to play R3PL this fall in order to play in two NL qualifying tourneys next year (2016)unless they want continuity for U15. Not sure that's a goal of theirs.

Congrats... seems like it's an obvious thing to happen at what is arguably the best girls club in Atlanta. Congrats to Tophat! This area will have an amazing ECNL presence!!

Glad they're finally admitting the obvious (ECNL rocks!):
"Tophat Soccer Club is honored to be invited for membership in the ECNL. We are looking forward to competing in the best female soccer league in the country and being a part of an organization that puts the needs of the elite female soccer player first.” -Troy Garner, Director of Coaching, Tophat SC

I doubt kids would leave their successful ECNL teams to play with Tophat. Tophat is just like any other club, stronger in some age groups weaker in others. Ditto with out of state players.

Yep, and then GSA Red will be a true B team at State Cup because they wont be able to borrow any players. I Wonder what AFU is thinking about doing... I can tell you for sure that they are planning two different teams with different coaches, etc. They are hoping that a few of this year's RPL U13s who don't make the ECNL team will hang around and play RPL or they will just have to double-roster a few to meet the 9 player rule. The dual rostering rule doesn't apply til they form a NL roster. NL is the only league it matters in.

O I have a clear vision of that guy in my head! ahhh you must know him?? He's a gem! At one of our games against them one of our parents yelled, 'well done!' He heard it and started mimicking it over and over and over like a parrot. I'll bet he said it 50 times. The only thing that stopped him was a hit their goalie took which set him off on a tirade about that. He's a real peach.

Thanks for the info th1976. That GSA team will have a bit of a conflict though! Would their second team get the slot even though they are at present really struggling in their first season in Athena A? Suppose they could turn it around in remaining games, but they still will have a tough time finishing above mid-table at this point regardless. I don't know what GSA is going to do. I do know that other clubs have successfully competed in both leagues. Sort of doubt the B team would be involved at all. Dual rostering 9 players on that team could lead to some big issues on the team/sideline, etc.

The worst I have heard in my life....was from an SSA parent when we were winning, he yelled at his daughter: "Hey honey go ahead and break her teeth, I'll pay for the braces.." Shortly after that, another SSA parent when asked not to yell such things said "Do you wanna take this in the parking lot?" O I have a clear vision of that guy in my head!

If the seeding is based on where they ended up at end of fall Athena? TH 1, AFU 2, UFA 3, GSA 4, etc. They show 12 teams from A and 4 from B. So 16. 1 v 16, 2v 15 , 3 v 14, 4 v 13 etc.
Then you use the format on the state tourney page for 16 teams.
TH (1) AFU (2) UFA (3) GSA (4)
Concode Black (8) NASA (7) SSA (6) Concorde Elite (5)
UFA Norcross (9) Lady Chiefs(10) TH Navy (11) Inter-ATL (12)
Ambush (16) Roswell (15) Dacula (14) GSA-Red (13)
This is how I see it. Maybe I'm way off who knows ;-)

Wonder why Crystal Dunn was so overlooked. She never seemed to get much of a chance. Size issue?

Interesting (from Big Soccer):
2015 (Canada): the oldest WWC team ever assembled; whether it pays off or backfires remains to be seen
Average age: 28.9 (by my count; I split the ages for the players, like Boxx, who have birthdays during the tournament)
Oldest player: Christie Rampone, 39.5 (first time one player has been the oldest on two different rosters; also, could be the first 40-year-old to appear for the USWNT at a WWC)
Youngest player: Morgan Brian, 22
Players 30 or older: 9 (Rampone, Boxx, Wambach, Solo, Lloyd, Chalupny, Krieger, O'Reilly, Sauerbrunn)
First WWC: 8 (35% of roster)
I'm not sure what Chalupny brings to the team. She was great at UNC and the U19WNT but all I really remember from her on the full team was some gritty defense. She seems a step off now.

I like the idea of using play during the season for ODP or a recommendation. The artificial system they've created just doesn't work. It's just a huge pool of players showing up once in a while when there's no rain to 'train' with one coach. Stuck in some odd position they don't play (and yes we all know it's good to play a new position, but maybe not at a tryout!). Forming three teams, based on ability supposedly (ought to be interesting and make for some high drama) to take to camp (which rumor has, is optional which seems to defeat the entire purpose....). Back in the day ODP involved forming a state pool and then a state camp to select 15-18 kids to form a state team to take to a tournament where they played other state teams. The coaches got to know their kids. From this maybe 5-6 kids off the team would go to regional camp. It's too unwieldy right now and seems to be more of a money making proposition than anything else. I can understand why kids drop out, especially if they play on an ECNL team.

I agree with Zizou regarding Warrior Girls (on Kindle for those interested). The story of Amy Steadman will blow your mind away. I've played with girls who've had 3 torn ACLs, knowing how it would affect them down the road. Another tore her PCL in a HS game and never got her speed back. Proper warmups and a good strength and conditioning program are so important.

She is a great kid with a wonderful attitude. She'll work really well with the group already there.

Especially curious about the 02 girls. There's some serious talent there. Any new kids? How'd the games go? Thanks!
